So if he has the night off, and I was planning on going out, I cancel on my friends in a heartbeat.

See, I don't know if most of the women on here would do that. Your marriage seems more old-fashioned, which is great, but I wouldn't drop my friends in a second to spend time with DH. I took my vows to DH, but I never want to lose my own identity and friends. I'm glad we're in an era where I can be an independent woman.

I completely agree. I am glad we live in an era where we can chose how to spend our days

I want to spend all of our free time together. So if he has the night off, and I was planning on going out, I cancel on my friends in a heartbeat.

This might also be due to the fact that you guys seem to have very little free time together from what you say. DH and I both work 9-5 jobs, no overtime with every weekend off. We see a lot of each other, so to do something solo for a few hours a week is not such a huge percentage of our free time together.

Exactly correct. I don't know the other side of the situation at all. we have always been like that.

My DH travels a lot for work so I am often at events without him when he isn't here. But I was single until 35 so it doesn't even feel strange. I just cherish the time we do get to spend together.

I do lots of stuff without DH. I have time with my sister and my neice or brunch or movies with the girls. I have friends out of state I love to see- and DH would be so bored with my and my girlfriends or my gay boyfriends. trust me- he would not have loved my weekend away with the gay boys in Provincetown. But we do lots of stuff together also. I think every couple needs time together, and time apart. It makes it all the more special when we are togetehr. I even went to Israel and spent a week with DH's family for a friend's wedding- but he couldn;t make it.

I don't think it would do my marriage any justice if DH went out or I went out purposely solo. If I want to go to the mall, and DH is off, and doesn't feel like going, I will do something he wants to do. I would just go to the mall a day he is working. I want to spend all of our free time together. So if he has the night off, and I was planning on going out, I cancel on my friends in a heartbeat.

Janice, I have to ask, have you lost friends b/c of that?

no, really they understand. I know some of my single friends get a little envious, but they are still my friends.

yeah, I am lucky. they know though that I am not a flat leaver, well I guess I kind of am. I just love being with him, and they all know it. So I guess they know it is take it or leave it.

I go out with my friends pretty often. He has his "card nights" and whatnot with his friends as well. I think I go out a lil more than he does but it has never been a problem and I think that it is healthy for the relationship. We do go out together as well sometimes.

Re: Do you ever go out or away and DH is not invited?

Personally, I NEED some time without him. I love him to death, but I have always been social and sometimes I just need to be away and have time with my friends.

Especially now with the kids. I'm with them so much (which believe me, I'm not complaining about!) that just a couple of hours away rejuvenates me and I think makes me be a better Mom!

My friends love Leo and totally understand. Sometimes he is the only guy out with us and it is not awkard at all.

.

I'm guessing though it may not be akward and I'm sure your friends love your DH, that sometimes they wish it was just the girls. I know that's how my friends and I felt when our friend was dating a guy that was ALWAYS with her. We thought he was a great guy, but sometimes it was annoying that we couldn't just be with the girls.
DH and I spend tons of time together and I love it, but I'm also very happy to have separate nights with our friends. He's being "kicked out" of the house tonight because I'm having the girls from my BP over to watch the wedding video. Of course, he's welcome to be home if he wanted, but he would rather spend the time with his friends than invade a ladies night.
