BRING BACK THE GUINESS!!!! But don't expose it to the air, I hear that's what changes it's taste.

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
We went a few years ago and it was the best vacation I have ever been on!
We traveled with CIE Tours. They were fantastic! My DH didn't want to drive so we did the tour thing. Next time, I am insisting that we drive!
Enjoy!

The Guiness Visitors Centre is really good, don't miss that. The inside is shaped like a pint glass and they give you a free pint in the roof top bar with awesome views of Dublin...its true, it does taste better in Ireland!

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
When I was a kid and early teens I spent my summer's in Ireland. I haven't been back since 1992... pre Euro so now the place is totally different.
How long are you planning on going for? You'll probably make a loop of the southwest.... Dublin, Lakes of Killarney, Ring of Kerry, etc.
Have a great trip.

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
We liked the west coast best - the Dingle Peninsula and Galway, the Burren, the Cliffs of Mohr. You might be interested in the Aran Islands ; we couldn't go b/c there was a storm when our ferry was supposed to leave.
Have fun!
ETA: the Aran Island link I posted is kind of lame, try these:
wikipedia's info
Galway, Connemara, and Aran Islands info

Definitely go to the Cliffs of Mohr. We lived in Ireland for 18 months, if you have any questions, please feel free to FM me.

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
Good luck at the travel agent! My mom went last year on a tour and had a great time. My aunt and cousins went and rented a car and got totally lost--wound up missing most of what they wanted to see....
My mom loved the Aran Islands and the Isle of Skye. She had some beautiful pictures.

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
DH and I went last summer. We had an amazing time. FM me if you would like to see our pics, I'll send you the link. If you go to Donegal, I highly recommend Slieve League. They are the highest sea cliffs in Europe, and they are stunning. Kinsale is a cute little town, we had a lot of fun there. We also went to Mizen Head-southernmost tip of island, which was very nice. I recommend doing a day trip to one of the islands. We took a ferry over to Inishbofen Island. Very secluded and beautiful and we rented bikes and just explored. It really depends how you do Ireland what you'll see. We didn't go on any tours, so we did some things that were off the beaten track. Let me know if I can be of any more help. You will have a great time!

The last time I went we started in Dublin and made our way around to Galway. Galway is my absolute favorite city! You should do a pub crawl in Dublin, the ring of Kerry and Cliffs of Mohr. I also loved Kilkenny.
Check out Ireland Expert. I got a lot of great information on the site.

Re: Guess what??? We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer
Congrats!!! The best thing my friends & I did is we flew into Shannon & left from Dublin. So we were able to drive around & see most of the country. I LOVE Dingle, the Cliffs of Moher, & The Aran Islands. (Ask the travel agent for a B&B listing book) We had one & it was perfect. Also most B&B's will ask you where you are headed to next & if they know someone in that area they will call ahead for you & book it. they are really nice & helpfull over there. If you want to party & drink best choices are Dublin & Galway.
I will warn you the Euro exchange su<ks & you might find things to be expensive. But, it is SO worth it. The country is the most beautiful country in the world!! You will have the best time.
We're going next month & I'm counting the days!!

We traveled with CIE Tours. They were fantastic! My DH didn't want to drive so we did the tour thing. Next time, I am insisting that we drive!
Last August we did a tour too, because DH didn't want to drive! I am glad we did it that way but next time we will rent a car.
Our tour was through Go Ahead Vacations, Enchanted Ireland, ten days.
My favorites- Dublin- Temple Bar area, Writer's Museum and St. Stephen's Green Powerscourt Estate- really amazing gardens The Queenstown Story Museum in Cobh- small, but I found it very moving as my family is from Ireland and there is a lot about immigration. Blarney Castle was neat, though I liked Bunratty Castle better. Ring of Kerry had the best scenery The Cliffs of Mohr, of course Aran Islands- we went to the largest island (Inishmor, I think) and it was overrun with tourists. But it's gorgeous in a bleak kind of way. We climbed up to Dun Angeus, which is the oldest medieval fort in Europe. And Galway is a very nice little city too- I wish we had more time there. We saw an awsome music/dancing show at the Great Southern Hotel, if you are there and they are performing it's worth it. The group is called Siamsa. I think my favorite pubs were in Galway.
Hope this helps.
