Re: Saddest moment of your life

I just wanted to say how in awe I am of the strenghth and drive of all of you who've suffered such terrible losses. As sad as this thread is, I think it's good because I think it's made a whole new level of closeness and respect for one another.

Re: Saddest moment of your life

1. For the first half of my life, my family lived in Queens and my siblings and I always hung out with our wacky single uncle. He would bring pizza, coloring books, chips, etc. THen one day he stopped coming over. What I didn't know was that he had a severe drug problem and it really got bad so he decided to not see us for a while. Four years later, clean and sober he showed up for Thanksgiving. It was my best Thanksgiving. He slept over and the next morning told us he would take us and all the cousins out to the movies later that night. He went home to shower and change, and a couple of hours later my other uncle called to tell us that my uncle Louie apparently had an epiletic attack in the shower, hit his head, and died. I felt horrible because that morning he asked me to play the piano and I told him that I'll play for him later that evening. Seven years later, Thanksgiving is still an uneasy holiday for me.

Re: Saddest moment of your life

2. I always viewed my dad as superman. He did it all. Dormered houses, fixed cars, sang like a rock star.... Then six years ago, he lost his job. He became extremely depressed and suicidal. So one of my saddest moments is running to the kitchen and screaming as he tried to put a knife through his stomach. He was in and out of hospitals and till today, though now 80% of the time he's fine, anything can trigger his depression. When it happens, life gets turned upside down as the whole family becomes his caretaker.

Kristin, I am sorry for your lossChat Icon
and everyone's losses.
Mine would have to be losing my both grandfathers within 2 months of each other.
Of course losing other relatives as well.
I rarely watch my wedding video anymore because some of those have passed and its just so hard.Chat Icon

Re: Saddest moment of your life

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon 's to everyone on here.

1 - The day I signed my mom into an adult home/nursing facility. The whole situation makes me so sad and it is STILL going on to this day. She has tried to commit suicide 4 times in the past 5 years. She is severely depressed and she has a ton of physcial aliments as well. She is in an adult/nursing home and she is 54yrs. old. I am seven months pregnant with her first grandchild and she is not emotionally or physcially available to me, or my brother. We have become her caretakers and I had no choice but to put her in a place where they can take care of her. She did not make this decision easy and because I have power of attorney I had to sign her into that place. Watching someone you love slowly deteriorate mentally and physcially is heartbreaking.
Every time I see her in there and she is one step closer to leaving this world, that then becomes my saddest day.

2 - When my grandma died. I just flew down to Florida to see her in the hospital. I flew home 2 days later and called my mom when my flight came in. There was no answer at home or on the cell. I called the hospital and spoke to the nurse. When I asked her about my grandma, she literally said to me "I am sorry but Mrs.XXXXX expired an hour ago". That is how I found out, in the cab going home, from some dumb a$$ nurse who said my grandma "expired". She was so cold about it, too.

3 - When my grandfather died. He died the day before by brother's wedding. I never had the chance to say goodbye to him. Plus, this sent my already suicidal mother into a tailspin. I ended up taking my mom to Florida (where we had the wake) the day after the wedding. I had to make all the arrangement and watch my mom to make sure she did not take a bunch of pills. I ended up grieving his death after I got home from Florida. Sometimes, I still don't feel like I have any closure regarding his death.

4 - 9/11/01 - if I wrote about this, it would take up an entire page.

Re: Saddest moment of your life

I guess the day my dad left. Me asking him why he was acting so weird, him telling me he was leaving. me yelling at him and arguing with him and trying to understand. Watching him pack up his stuff into garbage bags and leave. the empty sad, sunken feeling after he left. I guess what's been sadder though was seeing the ways in which he's hurt all of us since. If he had just left and been gone, it would be a lot different. Everyday seeing how hurt my mom is and what she has to go through, that really makes me sad.

Of course there have also been a lot of funerals. Every time I attend a funeral, it's just so sad for me and so hard. believe it or not, it's harder for me to attend a funeral for someone I'm not as close with, because I end up crying more and feeling sadder thinking about what the close family is going through and feeling bad for them. When it's someone close to me, it's really hard, but I can usually comfort myself knowing that there is no more pain and imagining that they are watching over and knowing how much they are loved.
