My DH works in Elmont and from what he goes threw there I would be careful.
Not saying that you shouldn't move there but that I know there are bad areas so be sure to do your research as I'm sure there are nice areas. I would say the same for Hempstead, Valley Stream & Franklin Square. I know of beautiful homes and community's in these towns and also of shootings & burglaries in other parts.
Hempstead IMO just as bad if not worst than Elmont.
Valley Stream as I posted above has some good parts.
FS is not bad at all. The shooting was an isolated incident that had nothing to do with FS. If anything FS is safer than most neighborhoods because of the "culture".
I wasn't speaking about that specific shooting. DH is a cop in Elmont and responds to calls all over that area including FS. He was actually involved in a Very bad incident in FS a few years ago. Regardless, I can't say much on these tows as I’ve never lived there but the stories DH comes home w/ are enough for me. I do know there are some really nice areas in FS but I think there are some less then desirable areas also. Maybe it's the border so I could be wrong.
Ugh...God Bless DH! Is that the shooting at the CVS? I remember that one being bad... That's definitely Elmont border. I won't go to the Pathmark over there because IMHO is "skeevy" I go over to the one in West Hempstead. Now that I shared where I shopped...hehehe...

Re: Elmont and Valley Stream area?
Yup! Exactly!!!
Its like Huntington one second your in Huntington Bay in Multi Mullion $ homes on the water w/ there own police dept. and the next min your in a crack den in the Station
It's sad that they have gone so far down hill. Those areas were so beautiful once!! It went so quick too. Lots of people I know in there 60's remember it being really nice. 40 years is not a lot of time for a neighborhood to get like that.

Re: Elmont and Valley Stream area?
I grew up in VS South Gibson section. Great Area still is.. Valley Stream Schools have scored very well and are still very well funded.
Central HS district is a very big district and I know they had some issues.
VS Gibson also border on Hewlett and some kids go to Hewlett High School
Elmont is fine just stay away from the Linden Blvd Section. Little Rough.
