Mine are. You should call your ins. co. and find out what prenatals are covered under your plan.

Re: Is anybodys Prenatals covered under insurance?
My doc never prescribed htem for me, so I don't know. HE was perfectly fine with me taking an OTC kind, so I take CVS brand - I get 100 pills for $8.99. You really can't beat it and they have the same ingredients and amounts as most prenatals.

Mine are, but the pharmacy charges less than my $20 copay for a 30 day supply so I pay the retail price.

Re: Is anybodys Prenatals covered under insurance?
Mine are I pay the copay. But my dr gave me a prescription for 90 days and the insurance company will only give me 30 day supply at a time. So, now I have to pay a copay 3 times on 1 prescription!!!

Re: Is anybodys Prenatals covered under insurance?
Really? Mine are - it just stinks the way my DH's insurance is set up - cause the beginning of every year we have to pay for our deductable. So of course I need them now and I have to pay for them out right

Mine are. I'm taking Citrucal. There was a special offer on the sample package for 100 for $30 when you were ready to order. That would help you save on 3 months worth.

Re: Is anybodys Prenatals covered under insurance?
mine are... depending on what kind, the copay changes it is wierd. the first one that i got ( which i really didn't like) the copay was $15. the second ones that i got were only $5. you might want to ask your doctor about the over the counter vitamins. they are just as good.

Re: Is anybodys Prenatals covered under insurance?
Technically under my ins they are, but they are all considered a formulary drug, meaning I would have to pay 30-40 bucks for a month's supply, which basically is all out of pocket for me.
I take CVS brand prenatals, no side effects, 8.99 for 100 pills.

If you send this in to a mail-order place, they will fill the 90 days for you (a 3 month supply) and usually only charge you 2 copays. If I could get my act together and mail my script in, that's what I would get. It's not a huge savings, but every bit helps.

The over the counter vitamins don't have the same amount of folic acid as the prescription vitamins. As long as your doctor says that is okay, then fine. But, studies have shown a significant decrease in birth defects (ie spina bifida) with the higher doses of folic acid. If you're going to take the OTC ones, ask your doctor if you should be supplementing with additional folic acid.
