Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
I had about 40 people at Jakes 1st birethday party. We actually rented out our clubhouse and had it there it was perfect. I also had a clown come and he loved her. I figured he would be turning 1 once and went a little crazy. Next year, it will be a small party with just family.

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
Cute shirt!!!! I am doign Kevin's first birthday party in my house as well. DH and I want to keep it small but I want a kiddie party and he wants a family party - we are still trying to figure out the guest list. I am thinking it will be in the 40 people range.
So what are you doing for your party? I am thinking Baby Einstein theme and bought paper goods this weekend. I am working on an invite now. Any cute '1' ideas?

I love the Baby Einstein theme! I saw a caterpillar cake online that was perfect for Baby Einstein. We're doing a sailboat/nautical theme. "A year has sailed by...." His nursery is PB little sailor and DH is a big boater so it works for us. We're having it at the Port Jeff Lobster House. And I'm getting carried away with "theme" decorations. As much as I wouldnt want to be very pregnant in the summer, i think summer birthdays are so much simpler. Something to keep in mind for #2!

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
We had about 40 people for Emmas first birthday. We are only having about 20 for Jeremys. With all the getting ready for Christmas I kinda slacked in getting ready for his birthday OOPS!!! I dont have a huge house anyway so 40 people is ok in June when outside is available but 40 is out of the question in January!!!

Wow...those all sound like great ideas. I love that shirt too!!
I don't know if I want to have a "big" party for Jared's 1st birthday...I just can't stand the drama that comes from a certain side of my family when I plan a party. If I lived in a house, I would have a small get together, but we live in a one bedroom co-op, which is pretty tight.

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
We had a big christening and are having an even bigger 1st bday(guest list is over 100 ) at a hall known for the great weddings they have
I dont care what others think, we just feel that we are able to give our son something spectacular so why not?
Will he remember it...no....will he see pic and video, sure.

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
Thanks for the cake picture - so cute.
colesmom- I was thinking of doing the caterpillar cake. I found so many cute pictures online. I was thinking a cupcake one - I have heard this idea but can't find any pictures - so if you see some - please think of me! DH thinks I am nuts with the theme ideas.
I agree for #2 - I would love a summer birthday - but guess somethings you can't plan....I would love a nice outside bbq party.
A sailing theme is sooo cute. I saw some cute pictures online a long time ago for a girl who did this.
Good Luck planning!

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
I did a Baby Einstein theme and made the theme all about Jack in primary colors/baby einstein. Here was a Jack's invite...each one was mounted on colored card stock in either blue, yellow, red, oraange or green:
And for a cake I did cupcakes with the theme color sprinkles and each one had a pciture of Jack on a colored stick....
And we had his party as a tailgate with family and friends at one of the Notre Dame football games in October. (DH wants to start him young!)

You wouldnt believe what some of my "friends" have said to me (and behind my back) about this freakin party. I am having a cake made by the same woman who made my DH's grooms cake and its $$$ one friend said to me how stupid I was for spending that amount of money on a cake no one was going to eat. She and her hubby were "X" on the guestlist

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
I wish we could of done a big party for Caiden when he was 1. We live out of state so it was pretty much us! Our families live all over the place unfortunately.
Now his 2nd birthday is in 8 days, and once again, it'll be just us. I'm really upset that I can't share his birthday with our families. I really wanted to start a tradition for him. The traditions that I never had.
Oh well... there's nothing I can do about it!

Re: Anyone have a big 1st birthday party?
So far our guest list is 70 people! We're having it at the Community House in Water Mill. Big parties are fun... I know she won't remember it, but she'll see pictures and video later and it's a good reason to get all the family and friends together too! I don't see anything wrong with it, but it's all personal preference.

We also had one person comment.
Tell me more about all your parties! I'm having so much fun planning this. Maybe Ron should start LI1stbirthday parties! In all seriousness though, I've actually been lurking on LIW to check out nautical themes and our bakery is a vendor there!
