My basement went on fire tonight...
I was so scared. I was home alone watching TV with the dog and the fire alarms went off. I thought it was strange but sometimes we have false alarms. Well I went downstairs to shut the breaker off and the basement was filled with smoke. I turned around and flames were shutting up near my boiler. I started panicking. My DH had just gone to my parents to pick up something and I knew he was at least 30 mins away.
I ran out of the basement and my dog would not come with me I kept trying to get him and he kept going towards the flames. I called 911 and then ran outside to get a neighbor or someone. My neigbhor who I never spoke to came running over ran in my house and in my basement and got my dog. I was in hysterics on the ground.
The beauty of having our own town police is that within 2 secs 5 police cars where at my house and they got the fire under control. Then the fire dept came and got the rest out.
It was so scary. Especially being alone and 35 weeks PG.
The damage Thank goodness was not that bad. Our new carpet is wet and we need a new slop sink and hot water heater. But thank goodness it was not worse. The fire chief said if we were not home our house would have been gone.
Thanks for letting me share. I needed to get it out because I am still so shaky.

The fire chief said that there was too much stuff around the hot water heater and it could not get enough air. We just had new carpet put down so we had moved everything over to that area. Which is also next to the slop sink.
Right after DH left I turned on the dishwasher and that heated up the hot water heater. And then it just ignited the slop sink and everything around it.
That is why people tell you never to turn on something, ie: dishwasher, dryer, washing machine and then leave the house. I can't even imagine what would have happened if I would have gone with DH
