I think you can save the soapbox for another thread. Your sermon tells me your sympathy is limited. Obviously she cares for her pets and keeping them outside is not crazy. A lecture on HER thread where she is LOOKING for her beloved dog does not help the situation. If you have to place a disclaimer in your post then maybe you should think twice about posting. If your goal is to make her feel worse then I'm sure you've succeeded. Putting a little 'go ahead and dis me' disclaimer doesn't give you license to make an 'everyone lets learn from this' speech. If my dog was taken from the daycare I keep her at then I wouldn't want lectures about how I should have checked the place more, never taken her there, etc. Your 20/20 hindsight helps no one.
I hope she finds her dog soon. And I really hope she doesn't feel worse from your preaching. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY sympathy is limited....?? who me?? 20/20 eyesight.. I wish..oh wait it is hindsight. Putting a little 'go ahead and dis me' disclaimer doesn't give you license to make an 'everyone. I have a license to drive and to teach...are you a lawyer? ya sound like one. My goal was to make her feel worse? No just telling her and everyone else reading this that sadly you can't leave your furbabies outdoors all day.
Gee.. sympathy for animals? I find that hard to believe being everyone comes to me for help when it come to pets.... uh is that because of my background?? Must be.
Green Grass, when it comes to helping pets.. I am the queen. I do care. But I am just stating the truth. I feel awful her dog is gone.. but in my opinion.. maybe not your opinion because you leave your dog in daycare, not a doggie pen.. well a dog should not be outdoors. (does that make sense??) oh who cares.
Love ya
btw she is a real soap box
Regi..I think you are a great help for many people on this board. I am not taking any sides but I tend to agree with the poster that this pet owner must be devastated as it is by her missing dog. I find that you may have valid comments at times but you post them on the wrong thread at the wrong time when people are not feeling their best and when your helpful comments might hurt them the most and instead of helping, it creates on them feelings not desired at that moment. I always think that the best place to leave your dog is in the crate if you are not home or inside the house if the dog has been trained and will not harm themselves. But there are always ways to help all of us by posting your knowledge/tips/insights perhaps by creating another thread with tips to care for your dog and not in the same thread where someone is already devastated enough because her pet is missing. I'm certain she has the best interests at heart for her pets as a pet owner. Why make her feel even worst than what she may already be?

Re: My Dog is Missing - UPDATE 7/25
Thank you all for your support and prayers. Nakita is still missing. We having been looking at our local Shelter and now neighboring shelters. I'm not sure how far she could have traveled by now. I continue to call the animal hospitals to see if anyone has brought any injured dogs in, as this is what we fear the most.
I know not every one agrees with pens and that's fine. I'm okay with it Just because I chose to raise my dogs differently from someone else, doesn't make me a bad dog owner. My dogs are well trained. And they are not out there 24/7, 365 days a year. My dogs are people friendly, but protective at the same time. I love my dogs as much as the next person.

Just an FYI, you can usually post on Petfinders and in shelters regarding your missing dog. I would also go to all the fire department all over - and post flyers. You would be surprised at how much they see. Go further away then you think your dog would have because they can travel a lot father then you would imagine.

Re: My Dog is Missing - UPDATE 7/27 - 3rd Page
I would keep calling all the animal hospitals because even if someone has found her they might bring her to their local vet for a check up and see the posters. I know that my vet posts them all and keeps their eyes out for them. My vet is
VCA Aldrich Animal Hospital in West Babylon. I would call all the vet hospitals in Suffolk because some people travel for their vet. My vet was originally by my house and then moved to the new center so I drive to go to her. So even though she might not get far someone could find her and take her to a vet father then your immediate area. Also I would go to all the different Animal Shelters because sometimes you will call and they will say no dog fits that description even though they might be at the facility. Look at the case of Princessmaris's mom and the pound saying that her dog was not there but in all reality it was there.

Thank you everyone for all your support. I just wanted to tell you guys that I never realized how amazing all the girls on LIF really are. I see everything going on with Debg and that makes me cry, but when it really hits home and people reach out to you, well all I can say is thank you. You truly are a special group of people

Re: My Dog is Missing - UPDATE 7/27 - 3rd Page
Dianne, I am so sad that Nakita is still missing. You said that you will be going away on vacation next week. Is there someone that will still be making calls to shelters and looking around town for you while youre gone? I hope that Nakita comes home soon, and I will continue to pray that she comes home safe.

Make sure you go to the shelters, regardless of what they tell you over the phone.
DH's dog ran away. She was gone for 6 days. He had been visiting and calling shelters.
Finally, we went to our local shelter to look- even though we called that day and they said she wasn't there.
Sure enough, she was there. She had her collar on with her tag and everything.
