When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

I'm thinking of an planning a "local" overnight (or two Chat Icon) with DH in October for our 5th anniversary... w/o the kiddies. Chat Icon The boys will be 3 and 14 months, but... I've never been away from them! (only 2 nights when I was in the hospital having #2 - and he visited me both days! Chat Icon).

Would it be crazy to get another room for my sister to stay in w/ the kids so we could spend a little time with them during the day? DH would think I'm nuts to do this! Chat Icon

If you're going to bring the kids so you can see them during the day, why dont you just stay home and then hire a sitter so the 2 of you can go out for the night. That's pretty much what you're going to be doing if you bring the kids with you.

We are planning on having our first night away from Jake probably this coming June. He will be 11 months old. Well, that's the plan but we'll see if that happens! Chat Icon

I hear you. My DH would say something similar. Chat Icon A sitter would go home at night, though... my sister would stay in the same room as them and have to get up at the crack of dawn, while I'd still be snoring. Chat Icon

Ooooh OK so she'd be there with them for the whole time.

Maybe try taking a kid-free trip - just try one night and see how it goes. Then next time you can either go 2 nights alone or take the kids with you! Chat Icon

Re: When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

Marissa was 2 months old she stayed at my mom's for a weekend. Then at 4 months she had to stay with my mom for 2 weeks since I had to have my gall bladder taken out and was on bed rest for the two weeks. Trust me I was not happy with that but I knew I wouldn't be able to care for her while re-cooping from surgery

Re: When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

I had a wedding in July and Jared was only a month old. He stayed at my mom's house for the night.

But the big test comes this October on our week cruise...

We haven't done it yet, but we just got a Save-the-Date for a wedding in May in Jersey. We will probably go and leave Katherine with my parents--she'll be 8 months then.

Sammy used to stay at my parents house one night a week for almost a year. She watched him while i was at work. I believe it started when he was about 4 months

Re: When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

i'm so embarassed, but we have never left the kids overnight, I don't think we would fully enjoy ourselves becuause we'd be wondering how they were doing, we never even get out by ourselves, but I don't mind, oneday the kids will be out doing their own things and we will have plenty of time together!

Re: When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

My first thought is to say that I would jump at the chance to leave my 2 for an anniversary weekend. I've been away from Luke a couple nights - first one was when we had a wedding to go to and it just didnt make any sense to pick him up at 2am, he was 7 months at the time. Then of course when I had T, I was in the hospital - and I've never been away from her yet. But truthfully, I dont know if I could really leave them...I'd be thinking of them alot and we'd be talking about them non-stop anyway. (probably wondering more about what they were up to than Im sure they were wondering about us LOL) I know no other life anymore than the one where they wake me at 6..7am (sometimes 5 Chat Icon), full of energy and raring to go. Im not sure we'd ever fully relax. It's a nice idea but would we do it? Not at this age... In your position, I personally wouldnt be that excited about taking the trip and taking them along with your sister in tow. In theory, you'd see them a bit and she'd be the "primary caregiver" but in reality, I am thinking it might end up as a family trip, plus your sister (although Im sure shes a very nice person, that's obviously not what you had in mind). If either of those boys looked remotely sad as you parted company, you'd be running back to them in a heartbeat, romantic plans be damned!

At first I said never, but then I realized when I was in labor, we were both away from Gabriella.Chat Icon At that point she was 18 months. Other than that, we haven't had even a date night since an x-mas party two years ago (she was about nine months.) We really have no intentions of leaving either of them any time soon, either. I left Joseph alone with DH at 11mos. We then eased into overnights at Grandma's after that.

Re: When did you have your first night away from the kid(s)?

well, i'm going away with my girlfriends in july to montauk for 2 nights, the kids will be with my hubby, but I am already worried! I was leaning towards 1 night, but everyone talked me into 2 nights. I just feel so far away, what if they need me? The good news is that by hubby will spend the day with my parents at their pool. so he'll have help, I just hope I can enjoy myself, hopefully a few cocktails while sitting on the beach will help distract me, plus most of us have 2 or more kids and at least 1 under 12 months, so we're all in the same boat! 10 girls together on the beach with no kids, I can't even imagine!

Thanks for your responses ladies!! Chat Icon I'm still not sure what we'll do. Chat Icon I think we can all agree that there's nothing wrong w/ being away from our kid(s) overnight as long as they're in good care. Chat Icon

I have until October to decide, although I'll probably want to take a whole week away by then - especially if my now almost 6 month old continues his rotten sleep habits! Chat Icon Chat Icon
