I work in a middle school and I am sometimes mistaken for a middle school student....
It gets embarassing on parent-teacher night.

Very similar for me. On my first day of school as a teacher, a fellow teacher asked me for my hall pass, mistaking me for a student. I was 22 at the time, but it's still a favorite story of mine!

Most people guess that I am younger than I am. I am an adult ESL teacher and I have students who are my age and they think I am much younger than them.

As far as perception of age being different, my students told me that they think Americans look younger than other nationalities.

Also, I was thinking of how older generations have a different perception of what 30 looks like and then I realized that at 30 a lot of our parents were married for 10 years and had been parents for a while.

I think maybe the fact that our generation has gotten married later and in some cases lived with our parents later than previous generations, has kept us looking younger. Ever notice how some people who got married and had kids younger seem older for their age?

A similar thing happened to me when I started working in a high school. I was in the hall after the bell rang and was asked for a hall pass---I too love telling that story
I consistently get guessed for 5-7 years younger and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

I always get pegged for much younger than I am...I am 24 but I still get ID'd for movies that are NC 17...I get funny looks at the liquor store when I walk in (they are probably waiting for me to show them some ridiculous ID or something)....My coworkers daughter thought I was younger than her (she is 18) and was mortified when her mother mentioned something about me being married-she figured I was about 16

Im 31, I could probably pull, 26-27 (from what Ive been told).

I'm 28, but usually get carded and work on a college campus where I am always mistaken for a student. I think a lot has to do with how I dress though--with my hair back in jeans and a tshirt people think I am a kid...In an expensive suit and shoes I am definitely treated older and given more respect.

I'm almost 33 and people don't believe it!
I look much younger.
The new principle in my old school thought I was one of the 6th graders when I went in to sub one day a few years ago.

I think I look my age when I go to work. However, when I go out...I think I look younger. My husband looks like a teenager! He gets proofed when we go out and I don't!!!
