I know!! They are too nice. I love the openess...I don't know how popular they are in NC, but we are debating buying property and one day building one on it
I love the architectural details...the built-ins, the woodwork. Plus they don't look like every other house, kwim?
I forgot about craftsman- I love them also!

Re: Poll: Type of house
we bought a cape, but my first choice would have to be a CH colonial. We were close to buying one but it was on no property
I love tudors from the outside but find them very dark and usually with small rooms inside. Splits make great use of space

We have a ranch. What I wanted was a house with a wrap around porch. You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need...

Re: Poll: Type of house
We have a ranch. I love not having stairs. When we lived in NY, we lived in a 3rd floor walk up apartment building. What PITA when carrying groceries or laundry.
A lot of the 2 story houses here all seemed closed in and tight.
We have an open floor plan and love the room and openess of the house.

Re: Poll: Type of house
our house was listed as a colonial, but it really isn't. actually the exterior is a bit comtemporary looking. it was a ranch that had a second story added. we didn't really have a house style in mind, we knew how much room we needed & in our target area most of the homes are small bungelows so we were thrilled to find our house since its so big. Our goal is to change the exterior style to more of a post modern style. I can't say I love one style over another, I grew up in a ranch & loved it, always loved tudors since my first dollhouse was a tudor, victorians with a farmhouse flair always catch my eye. I think when house shopping, it comes down to so much more than a specific floor plan. Long island is sorta weird because we have so many different style homes, then people renovate them to look like something else.
