Re: Just got back from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory...
You know, I saw that on the website, but as far as I knew Levittown doesn't have an IMAX theater....the only one is in Lincoln Square.

I LOVED IT!!!!! It followed the book way better than the original...aside from Willy's creepy flashback thing...and the colors and special effects were great! I know I am going to get a lot of flack about this, but I thought is was sooooo much better than the Gene Wilder version!!!
BTW, The movies do not have the same title...the first was Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and this one is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (the same name as the book)
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loved it!!! My friend and I were hysterical. Depp's facial expressions were the BEST, and I found myself laughing more at that then the dialog, although that was really funny too.
Depp's best at his most maniacal!!

Re: Just got back from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory...
I have to add my $.02. I loved it....and I took my 9 year old step-daughter and she loved it too. The audience was packed....a mix of adults alone, adults with kids, etc. And...the original was one of my favorites also....but this one was good too!

Do you think a child would like it?
I also heard Johnny Depp is getting a lot of flack since he seemed to model his character after Michael Jackson. What do you think about that?
I think kids would love the visuals and the physical comedy, like when the boy falls in the chocolate river and the girl turns into a blueberry and rolls away.
Granted, both Depp's character and Jackson are strange and both live in a fantasy kingdom that only selected children are invited to, I really don't see the connection. Jackson says he loves children and Willie Wonka doesn't like them. Sentimentality in family relationships is not a focus in Roald Dahl's books.
Tim Burton took creative license in making this movie, and I'm glad he did. It was worth it!!

Re: Just got back from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory...
I saw the movie last night with 5 others, ages 17-28, and none of us really liked it. While there were some funny scenes and little Charlie was ADORABLE, it just seemed to lack something. We all agreed we wouldn't recommend anyone to pay $$ to see it in the theater but perhaps rental/HBO would do if you must see it.

I totally agree with this...I always thought of WW as mysterious, whimsical and witty....this one was just too creepy with psychotic tendencies
