Help!! Ant Problem!!!
Help!! We've had an infestation of tiny ants! They are driving me crazy and completely skeeving me out!! We are in a basement level apartment and this is the first time we've had the problem - we think it's because when there were all those floods last fall and we flooded, the foundation cracked
I've put out little RAID traps - worked for about a day or two - but now it seems worse! We have to be careful with sprays and stuff because of the pets!
Any suggestions!! I do NOT want to be dealing with this all spring and summer!!!

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
my parents used to use Terminex in their house....and it kept bugs away. They had a cat the whole time and nothing ever happened to him....but then again, he's pure evil, so I doubt anything would hurt him

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
I used Terro ant traps for both houses we've lived in. Everyone I told about said it worked like a charm. Last year I was ready to spend $350 on exterminating but decided to give them a shot.
The ants swarm for days 1-3 to the trap - and it's disgusting to see, but you don't kill them. They bring the poison back to the nest. You need to kill the nest or you'll get them back within a month or 2. We use the traps & then go away for a weekend.
You can buy them in Home Depot or online. Make sure you identify what kind of ant you have. Terro's website

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
I have also heard good things about Terro. Whatever traps you do use- don't kill the ants. My DH almost had a fit when he caught me spraying them, if you kill them, then they can't bring the poison to the nest.

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
I just use pepper around the foundation of my house and that seems to keep them away, I dont remember where I heard that but it works for me.

DH used baking soda and cinnamon around the entry points to get rid off them last summer.

Definitely spray the outside of the house, that's what we did when we were in our apartment and it worked.

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
if they are going to the pet's food, put their food dish on a dryer sheet. It works VERY well.

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
We have this problem every summer. We usually call an exterminator, but that only lasts for a little while. We also used the Raid ant traps but that did nothing. Dh even went so far as to sprinkle boric acid outside the house but that didn't work either. I am definitely going to try the Terro traps.
Mrs. Wask- I can totally understand what you're going through!

Re: Help!! Ant Problem!!!
Just wanted to add, make sure you keep all food sources away, don't leave anything on your countertops, especially sweet stuff, don't leave any standing water in the sink or dirty dishes. don't leave pet food down all day, etc.
Also if you use traps, don't SPRAY! It's tempting, but you can't do both, like someone said, the poison from the spray turns them off and they won't go near the trap to kill their friends and family.
Good luck! It could be worse, you could have bedbugs!!

Great, I've seen one too many big black Ants in my kitchen the last few days Andrew's taken to spotting them and running around going "kill, kill"

ITA. That is my one real complaint about living on a slab. I signed up with an exterminator to spraying the perimeter of the house outside and since then, we've hardly seen any bugs inside. When we first moved, we had SO many spiders The spraying really helped though.
