my gyno is with NY Methodist Hospital in Park Slope, Brooklyn. my hub and i went in for a tour and was instantly unimpressed. we were bummed because we really do like the area and it's right next to barnes & noble. i mean how great is that?? but ugh! that hospital was just so ghetto. i've only seen my gyno once so far so it's not a big deal that i change doctors. i'm looking into Lenox Hill. Has anyone ever given birth there or know of its reputation and etx? Is there a hospital you could recommend that's either in Manhattan, Brooklyn and possibly Long Island? that would be so great! thank you!

Are you pregnant???? I'm so very happy for you if that is the case!

Chat Icon no i'm not pregnant. but my endocrinologist and i are about to start the procedure in early Feb. i may be jumpin' the gun here but this prompted me to look for a hospital so my hub and i wouldn't have to worry about while i'm actually preg. plus he's an accountant and right now it's tax season. he'll be busy for a while. but thank you for your well wishes! =D

i'll be at either winthrop or good sam.....haven't figured it out yet. i heard winthrop has a great nicu- which i kind of wanted to have since i'm a juvenile diabetic- is that what you see your endocrinologist for? if not, sorry for prying.....
good luck in the process!!!! sending you lots of baby dust!!!!

i'm going through early menopause. therefore, i have no eggs and very little chance of regaining any. we settled on a donor and will make the transfer in early Feb. good luck to us, everyone =D don't worry about prying. that's one of the reasons why we have this type of board. to get us through it all.

ladies - thank you for submitting all your hospitals. i'm very grateful to you and to those after this! this Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Which hospital did you or are giving birth in?

LOTS OF LUCK to you!

I do think though you are being too critical. A hospital is not suppossed and never will be warm and cozy...They are cold and sterile , and for good reason, they treat sick people. And really what would you need a BArnes and Noble for when your delivering? Your gonna be in your room for 48-72 hours max. I would concentrate on your DR and the nurses at the hospital the most. Your expectations for a hospital should not stress you this much because in the scheme of things, its the DR thats important, the pediatrician and nurses helping you. You wont be waling the halls for 2-4 days so you shouldnt stress over that.

I dont mean to sound harsh, I just hate to see anyone stress so much over something like this.

I will be delivering when PG ( undergoing IF treatments myself) at NSLIJ at Manhasset .

of course i'm not going to be at barnes and noble while in labor. this is for my friends and family who might want to go there or somewhere rahter than waiting around. and i've only seen my gyno once so far so i haven't exactly established a stable relationship with her. and i'd rather look for a hospital my hub and i will be content with along with a doctor i'm content with. now rather later (while preg) and be really stressed out. and did i mention how ghetto Methodist Hospital was? i mean i noticed food on the ground. that's not something i want.

don't worry about it. this is definitely your own opinion and i do understand completely. peace. =D

I will be delivering again at Winthrop.

My SIL was living in the city at the time she had her twins (vaginally I might add!) and she had them at Lenox Hill and she said it was all good!

I delivered at NS Manhasset and will again this time.

But I have several family members in the medical field who practice in Brooklyn and they all love the Methodist. They insist that all our family members who live in Brooklyn go there. My grandmother was in a comatose state for almost a month there and we really liked the ICU staff.

I know they have been doing a lot of construction work on the hospital, maybe you were in an older part or part that was being worked on?

from where i entered and to the birthing floor wasn't very inviting.. cold even. i was expecting something warm and cozy. i dunno.. maybe i'm expecting way too much for a miracle birth. my hub and i have been working so hard so far for our own little one. i just want things to be nice and comfortable for me, and my fam and friends. i did take a tour of Methodist approx 6mths ago (we frequent Barnes and Noble). Maybe we'll take another tour in a few more months. did they just start their renovation? do you mean the boarded up walls right outside the hospital? cuz that's a lot of construction work that won't be done for a long while. again, we're in the area often. maybe we should make another appointment for a tour. thx!

They've been doing renovations for a few years now. The problem when a hosptial renovates, it takes a really long time since they have to move pretty slowly. They do small portions at a time so that they can safely move and care for the patients from that area in another area and not overburden other parts of the hospital.

But the Methodist is smack in the middle of Park Slope, so I wouldn't call the area crappy. It's an extremely desirable area of Brooklyn. Maybe I misunderstood you, maybe you meant just that the interior of the hospital wasn't that great.

My aunt is in research at SUNY Downstate, which is in a REALLY crappy area but is a great hosptial. Fantastic trauma unit, that's where all of the NYPD officers who work in Brooklyn are taken if they are injured on the job.

no, i meant the interior of the hospital. park slope is one of my favorite neighborhoods. it's very family oriented, quiet, quaint and nice little shops to boot. but once we stepped into the hospital. it didn't look sanitary. maybe the janitor was having a bad day. i dunno. but scott and i will make plans for another tour and see how that goes. thx again! =D

The suites are very nice. I missed it by one baby. I was going up to my room while someone was leaving the suite - so the next girl got it. If DH would have fought I am sure I would have. Will the new maternity ward be done by the time you deliver? The plans for that looked great.
