 My father lives four hours away and often pulls the same cr@p. He never stays over, but always waits til the last minute to cancel or finalize plans. Often plan finalizing meant he wanted to meet in the city instead of Long Island, which is a pain for me. I think it is a way of maintaining control and power, and for me, with him, I've realized I can control that by not counting on anything. If he mentions coming, I don't clean or prepare until I know he has left. It's hard, but I think some parents have this need to be in control/power. Good luck!
