Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
I've been thinking about this alot lately. We have no intentions of telling our family we are TTC. But when you do get your BFP will you tell your families (immediate family, rents, siblings, etc) right away, or wait 3 or 4 months to do so?
Superstious me thinks to wait the 3 or 4 months, but on the other hand, I don't know how in the world I would be able to keep it secret! I have such a big mouth!

I will definitely wait at least 3 months (if I ever get PG). One of my in-laws was pg and told everyone at 4 weeks. Then she miscarried and EVERYBODY talked about it endlessly.
I wouldn't be able to deal.

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
I think I might wait till I get the BFP from doc and then take it from there.
I know 3 months is crucial time for a pregnancy and anything can happen...a reason why people tend to wait.
its hard not to be excited and want to tell everyone.

I think I'll wait too. I'm too superstitious not to. Anything can happen, unfortunately!
DH is with me, we coldn't deal.

DH said to wait the three months...but come on. I don't think that I can hold it in tht long. I'll tell my bff, but will wait until around 10 weeks to tell everyone else.

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
Personally, I think certain people are very intuitive when it comes to pregnancy - especially mothers. Even early on, before someone is showing, they can just tell. If someone asks and I am, then I would say so. I just wouldnt advertise.
I am also going to say that if you demonstrate a change in long-lived dietary habits, people will automatically jump to conclusions. I mean I drink a lot of diet soda and if I stopped all of a sudden, some people would put 2 and 2 together. ESPECIALLY because I am newly married and older - people are actually asking me on a daily basis as it is.
I would feel comfortable telling my immediate family because I know they dont blab. I also work with my sister and if there were any emergencies regarding my pregnancy, I would want her to know because she wouldnt allow me to be taken to the local hospital - it stinks.

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
I'm not telling ANYONE until 3 months.
Though I am thinking my family will pick up on me not drinking if I am with them at a party or at my Gparents house, so I might just say I am trying to cut back or I will put water in a beer bottle so no one knows.

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
I would probably tell at the 2-3 month mark. But, as stated above, it gets tough when you change dietary habits, etc. I've already stopped drinking as much and cut back on other foods, etc but I think when I go cold turkey people will notice. Though, it helps that I am out of state so I do not see my family every day.
I think I might try to hold out telling until one of them has the nerve to ask me if I've put on weight

Thankfully, I am out of state too and don't see my family that often.

Me too that's why I'm cutting back now.
I'm not telling anyone that we are TTCing.
And we're going to wait for 3 months for our BFP to tell family and friends.

hmmm, good question!
if I tell my MIL, the whole world will know within a matter of hours. so I think we better wait to tell her.
But I will tell my parents right away!!
to us ALL!

I can only imagine my mother! Ours would be the first grandkid on my side of the family. But my mother cannot for the life of her keep a secret.
The night we got engaged, I called my mother, and hung up with her to call my grandmother (all of a 30 second lapse) and by the time I called my grandmother, she already knew!

i waited until the 3 mos. even to tell our family... part of the reason, i didn't realize i was so far along at my first ultrasound!
but with the next, i'll probably spread the news earlier...

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
I would wait til the standard 12 weeks before I told anyone. I would most likely tell my mother sooner-- just so I can talk to her about it. Maybe a friend or two as well-- but it would definitely be on the DL.

This is very true. My mother told me that she would just know when I was PG. I might end up telling early because I would much rather surprise her early on than have her say "so you're PG" and ruin my good news. If something happens, I would also want her to know because she would be there for me.
I guess I'll only tell immediate family when it happens and I will swear them to secrecy. I won't tell anyone else until after the 1st trimester.

Re: Spinoff to not telling anyone that you're TTCing
We are not tell anyone that we are TTCing, but as soon as we get the BFP, I know we are going to tell. I just can't keep it from my family. At first, we wanted to wait until we heard the heartbeat, but I know I can't wait that long.
