How do you feel about Broadway plays?
love? like? eh? dislike? hate?
personally, i dont like them at all. i find the singing and dancing combination a little bit annoying.
I think the tix are over priced, seats uncomfortable and I have never once liked any show that people rave about.
So I can honestly say I have given it many tries, but still I do not enjoy this.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I guess I like them for the most part...some are better than others. I never pay full price for them though... I only go if I can get discount tixs.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I love QUALITY Broadway shows, musicals or straight plays.
I'll pay to watch a show like "Chicago" (with real dancers and singers, not random celebrities) but I won't even bother with the cheap seats for a show like "The Wedding Singer."

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I love the live aspect of the show!
I too think the ticket prices are outragous and the theathers are way too SMALL!! I cant stand that I have to share my space with someone sitting next to me...I just feel too close...and there is no reason that my knees should hit the chair in front of me...Im not a tall gal!!

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
Why don't you try a non-musical then?
There's really so much out there. I usually don't like the big hits anyway.
I love plays in general. I have mixed feelings about the trends in Browadway lately. I am really sick of jukebox musicals, bad, last ditch revivials, and cheesy fluff plays adapted from movies.
I've seen some great stuff on Broadway in the past year though:
Doubt Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Glengarry Glen Ross
Avenue Q Sweeney Todd
LOVED all of them. I also saw Fiddler, which I liked and Spamalot, which I hated.
There's also some great stuff Off and off Off broadway, which is cheaper, and you might really like it. If you let me know what you're interested in, I can try to come up with some suggestions.
The big ticket Broadway Musicals are not really a good cross section of what's really out there. For example, right now I'm working on an Off off show that's a teenage catholic school girls verison of Lord of the Flies. it's really interesting and is worlds apart from say, Mamma Mia.
Cheesy as it is though, I am SO psyched about A Chorus Line
I'm seeing The History Boys next week, I'll let you know how that is.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I've seen some great shows (Chicago & The Producers, Mamma Mia) but I have also seen some laaaaaaaaaaame ones (42nd Street )
I don't go out of my way to see shows. when I go, it's because my mom bought tickets and didn't ask/tell any of us beforehand.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
Well, I have dedicated myself to theatre since I was about 6 yrs. old. Is it a little unrealistic for people to break out in song and dance? Absolutely and I love it!! I do agree about ticket prices and the seats, but unlike films shows continue to have running costs after they open.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I alos posted on another thread about a friend's show, a musical. it was a big hit at the NYC Fringe Festival and was chosen for an Encore run. The tickets are cheap $18! and it's really funny. The whole sold out audience was roaring with laughter. it's a musical, but it's all a cappella. The singers are AMAZING...some of them are Broadway actors. It's a really funny and offbeat mockumentary called Perfect Harmony.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I have to add that I have seen a few Off Broadway plays/musicals that I have really enjoyed and they were 1/2 the price of the "big" shows!!
Try some Off-Broadway even Off-Off Braodway stuff is good!

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
Depends on the show. I do think they're overpriced though and often overrated -sometimes too cheesy. I will go when given tickets but I'm choosy. My aunt offered me free Tarzan tkts. the other day and I passed on those. I prefer off-broadway and more theatrical comedies or dramas.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I think saying you don't like plays is liek saying you don't like movies. There's just so much out there, it might not all be as publicized.

Re: How do you feel about Broadway plays?
I love Broadway shows. When I was a kid, every year for my birthday my parents took me to see a musical. I loved them. Phantom was my all-time favorite. The only show I've ever really disliked was Cats. DH dislikes Broadway, but he took me to see Avenue Q for my birthday. He's willing to see a revival, but on a smaller venue like the Goodspeed Opera House. DH loves plays.

Love...love...love them!!!!!
I grew up going to broadway shows. It has always been a special night or day out for us. I used to be a dance teacher, so thats part of where my love for them comes in too. There is nothing like Broadway in the world!

Love them! Didn't really go to them until my DH started to bring me when we were dating. There are some shows I don't see the point of seeing, but there are others I just love, like Beauty & the Beast

I've seen tons of broadway plays and used to love them but now I've grown a love for concerts and couldn't see myself sitting thru a play so not a big fan anymore.
