Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
DH works the 2-11 shift so before DD slept through the night we would stay downstairs (she would be sleeping in her pack and play) when she would wake up at around 12 he would do that feeding and I would go up to bed. Then when she would wake up at 3amish I would get up change her diaper while he prepared the bottle and he would do the over night feedings and I would go back to bed. The one time that we tried for him to do the diaper and bottle she pooped and I heard over the baby monitor "Mommy you need to get up we have a poopie diaper"
Now that she sleeps through the night I get up with her during the week when she gets up and he gets up with her on the weekends but I guess this will all change next week when I go back to work

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
I blame men's behavior on their Mothers. Women tend to do everything for their sons but teach their daughters to cook etc...
I telll my DH all the time that if he is sleeping in my bed I AM NOT HIS MOTHER!!!! And that he needs to get off his but and do something around the house.
With all that said....DH does not get up during the night!!! So much for my tirade

I am getting so bitter toward my hubby, I NEVER get a break, I take care of our 3 kids all day and then even through out the night it's ALL ME!!! I'm beginning to see why Moms opt for bottle feeding, then DH could help at night, so you ladies that are bottle feeding, does DH help you through out the night? When I hear hubby snoring in a nice, deep, sleep, I feel like I want to put the pillow over his face (just kidding), but I am exhausted!!!!!
Both of my kids slept thru the night before I went back to work (my dd at 6 weeks!!-I went back at 12 weeks). My dh would do the last feeding, usually 11pm, at night during the week and we would take turns on the weekend. He always would help when he could.

In the beginning, he was very good...but as my mother said..the novelty will wear off and it will all be on you. I guess it depends on the guy though...
He has changed a poopy diaper though...I made him!!!

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
My baby is not here yet...but, DH has already told me he's not waking up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand though...I'm going to be the one who won't be working anymore...DH is usually in bed by 10 pm and wakes up at 4:45 am to do a 2 hour commute.
I do expect some help on the weekends and I'm sure that DH will.

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
DH was a big help in the beginning and even now. Alex sleeps through the night now so it is great. DH works and I don't but on Sat or Sun DH will wake up with him at 6:30 and feed him and let me sleep.

I have to disagree. My dh has helped with both my dd and ds who are 5 years apart. He gives them baths 99% of the time and ALWAYS changed their diapers.

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
I guess I am a little surprised reading this thread, in that I never expected the majority of dads to not be helping out.
Not getting up (even occasionally) and not changing diapers ever, I really thought that was a thing of the past.

DH wants to do more, but he doesn't have a traditional 9-5 job, and isn't home when she's awake. When he is home and she's up he spends all his time with her, but unfortunately in our situation it's not all that often.

I hear that, but I am getting the vibe that some men just don't want to.

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
My DH is pretty good, we both work FT 9-5 and while it is not a 50/50 split (more like 70 me/30 him), he does get up for her at night, change diapers, feed her and loves to play with her. I dont think I could tolerate him not helping as much, it is his job too!

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
In all honesty I would not tolerate my husband not changing a dirty diaper or saying he was not getting up. Hello.....1 sperm + 1 egg = YOUR baby. Granted mens traditional roles are still in the changing phase and for every dad that helps out like he should there is probably five dads that would rather sit on the couch with the game on while their wife cooks dinner with a baby on their hip.
I consider myself to be fairly traditional in the way we are raising our children and that I do the cooking and he mows the lawn, but not helping out with your kids is simply unacceptable in my mind.

Re: New Mommies!! Does DH help during the night?
FH would help out in the middle of the nite he would get up and tell me to go bac to sleep and Iwould try but I couldn't go back to sleep until I knew our daughter was back to s leep. in the mornings he would take her and feed her and let me sleep in and sometimes I would take a nap during the day and he would take care of her when he went back to work it was all me he works at nite and when he would get home he would stay awake and wait for her next feeding so I could sleep longer and during the day I would let him sleep and I would take care of h er but he did help out
