Re: Ten years ago...

Ten years ago I was 19, in college, living at home and studying psychology on a premed track. Very focused and driven towards my goal of becoming a physician.
Saw my future... with love, medicine and children.

Today, I am approaching 30 and I am a doctor. My days are filled with beautiful kids, although not my own...at the end of the day my apartment is so quiet! The man in my life brings me pure happiness...he is all I need. In this last decade I have learned alot. I have an appreciation for life now that I never had before. I now know the strength of the human spirit because I have seen it in action for the last 15 months in my training. I am no longer working towards a single goal, but rather living each day and taking in all of it's lessons. everyday they are there if i look hard enough. It sounds cliche' but it really isn't what you become, it is how you get there.

10 years ago I was just breaking up with my idiot ex-boyfriend who I still swear was gay- that's another story- I thought I would have been married in a year or two and have all my kids done by 30 and live in Northport and maybe only teach part time.

Um didn't happen. Here I am turning 34 only married 3 years and not done having kids and I am still working full time. Though I LOVE my job.

Re: Ten years ago...

10 years ago, I was just going into high school. My biggest crisis was that my boyfriend's parents were forcing him into catholic school, so we wouldn't have class together. I kept busy by turning myself into SuzyHighSchool - I did anything and everything.

I saw myself going Ivy league, graduating early, and living the crazy single corporate NYC life in a beautiful apartment near the park.... I thought I would be a career woman, and I was never interested in having children or living in the burbs.

I met Rich 3 years later, and my world morphed into something I never expected it to. I realized that a state school was the most economical for me and my family, and I didn't want to be too far from Rich.

Fast forward to now: I'm 23 (and a half!), getting married in a year, stilllllll struggling through school because I have no idea what I want to do with my life and I've changed my major 4 times, can't wait to move to a quiet place down south, make a home, and start popping out the babies Chat Icon

Re: Ten years ago...

Ten years ago I was starting my junior year at Hofstra. I was pining after someone who hardly saw me as anything more than his friend's kid sister.

At that point I was taking publishing studies classes. I expected that by 30 I would be a senior editor at a children's publisher, married and have kids.

Well, I worked in publishing for six years. It didn't work out. I am back in school to be a librarian (a career I never considered). I am married and the first baby is due in Feb.

Ten years ago I was starting my freshman year of college. I had an intended major in accounting and no expectations of getting married. I really had no idea of what I wanted or what direction Iwas headed in. I chose accounting because my mom was an acocuntant and I had no idea that there were any other options out there for me.

Ten years later...I met my DH the first week of freshman year (September 3rd we started dating), changed my major to Human Resources and now I am specialized in compensation. I owned a co-op (didn't even know what that was 10 years ago) and will hopefully own a home and start a family in the next few years.

It's amazing where life takes you and after thinking back on these last 10 years...I can't wait to see where the next 10 takes me.

I love reading everyone's posts...this was a great thread to start!

10 years ago I was 19 and getting out of a bad 4 yr. relationship and got my tattoo in honor that I escaped that person. I was loving Nassau Comm. College and still wondering what I wanted to be "when I grew up". Who knew that one year later I would meet my future husband.

Re: Ten years ago...

I was 14! I thought 24 was ooolllddd. I didnt think about 10 years away - but I dont think I saw myself getting married, or my dad and uncle dying unexpectedly. I think due to all of that I DONT look 10 years into the future - who knows what is going to happen next year?

Ten years ago, I was 29 sitting at the same desk I am right now, renting a house with friends and having a blast.

If you asked me then what I'd be doing now, I would have said I definitely would not be sitting at this desk! I'd be a married SAHM with a couple of children. So, I'm off a couple of years.

10 years ago, i was 16, going into my junior year of HS. i was excited, getting ready for the next marching band season- LOL
i have to say, my life now is pretty much where i thought it would be. i'm married to a great guy, we own a house, and i work at a school as a speech therapist. i always knew i wanted to work at a school, just was never sure what i would be doing there- LOL
as far as kids, i have a genetic disorder that makes me unable to have kids, that i've know about since i was 5 or 6... so i always knew i was going to adopt. we're planning to do that in the next couple years... i'd like to at least start the process before i'm 30- so so far, we're right on schedule!
