Re: moving back in with parents?

I lived with DH and his parents before we got married for a couple of years, no apt, just in his bedroom, even shared a bathroom with his brother and sister... it was super tough at first... nothing is really yours... i missed my stuff... but there were a lot of positives as well... I got super close with his family, we were able to save a ton ofmoney, and we never had to worry about what to make for dinner!

i think it really depends on you, DH and the relationship you have with his parents...

It depends on the length of time - I couldn't do it for two years, but a year and under, I might really consider it. It's so incredibly difficult to save $$$ while renting and paying all of the other bills.

Re: moving back in with parents?

My DH and I lived with my parents for 4.5 years. It was a wonderful jumpstart. DH moved out with a degree, we are college loan free. totally out of debt, and money for a downpayment on a house and cars purchased in cash. We did not have a seperate apt or anything.

A truely great thing was that my family really got to know Leo. They are his family now.

It is a sacrafice, but as long as ground rules are set, you should be problem free.

ETA: we had privacy. It was never an issue

I, personally, could only do it for a few months. And I think we could only stay with my Dad/Step-Mom or His Dad and Soon to be step mom.

We couldn't handle the Moms Chat Icon

Re: moving back in with parents?

For my own values, i would just NEVER be able to do it. In my mind once I was married, I considerd myself to be self sufficient, I like to do things on my own and struggle on my own if need be, I don't like any handouts because then it is not as fulfilling once I have reached my goal. We paid high rent and also saved for a house and we busted our a$$' doing it. Is it our absolute dream house? No, but it's a great house that we could afford at that time. I feel like my parents did enoigh for me while growing up and it makes them feel good to see me and my hubby work extra hard to obtain our needs with no ones help (It's kind of like our success also signifies their success as our role models) We have never gotten any help from anyone and would NEVER take any assistance, it is just not us. We do pretty well financially and now, in the end with a beautiful house and 3 kids and a nice car, it feels so good to say we did it ALL on our own.
