How can you tell it's time to put your baby down for a nap if they don't show signs of tiredness...

I read Weissbluth & understand the two hours awake time, then a nap. But at what age do you start that? Right away? I usually let DD fall asleep wherever she is- swing, bouncy seat, boppy, my arms, for naps (she is 6 weeks). If I put her in her crib awake, she almost always starts crying within a minute or two. So I end up going in & picking her up. The only time she'll go down in her crib is if I rock her & she's almost asleep.

So I guess my question is, at 6 weeks, what is the best way to get her to nap in her crib during the day? Put her in fully awake after 2 hours of awake time? Let her cry in the crib? Or should I just stick to the swing & bouncy seat naps for now?

Re: How can you tell it's time to put your baby down for a nap if they don't show signs of tiredness...

This morning he took a one hour morning nap and got up at 10:45 so at 1:30 pm I lay him down in my bed. Put a pacifier in his mouth and he should awake with his eyes wide open just staring and eventually he fell asleep within 15-20 minutes. I couldn't believe it.

He may have been tired because the morning nap was an hour who knows but he fell asleep for an hour an a half. Most of it was in light sleep mode but at least he was sleeping.

Now tonight we went to toys r us and he fell asleep in the car. It's a 10 minute ride. So he feel asleep for another hour and was up at 6:40pm so now what time should I put him to bed??? 8:40-9:30
