Thank yous ?

I was reading a thread yesterday about someone being upset that they didn't get a ty from a bridal shower and a wedding.
Now don't get me wrong, i think it is rude.

BUT to be honest i could care less if i got one. I do like getting the little pic in a wedding TY but otherwise....i could careless if i got a shower TY, a birthday TY. I guess if i sent the gift, well then i would like a ty card. BUT if i was there and saw the person open the gift and say thanks...that is good enough for me....I do not need a little card 2-3 days later saying the same thing....IMO waste of a stamp

what do you all think?
DO you like TY's?
Do you not care either way?

I don't really care either way - I certainly won't think less of someone if they don't send one. But on the other hand, I do like it when I get a TY - - - Chat Icon

Re: Thank yous ?

i don't care about birthday thank you's... But big gifts, like shower and wedding, I care about.

I didn't go to a friends wedding, but I sent her a gift. Her wedding was in july, i sent the gift in september, and I got a thank you over IM about a month ago.

I guess growing up my mom was always very big about sending thank you cards for everything, so now I expect them too.

Re: Thank yous ?

I don't really care either way. Like red said if you were already there and they thanked then that should be enough. It would bother me a little if I wasn't there and I sent a gift and they didn't send me a TY card.

For my bridal shower, my mom attached thank you cards to the favors thanking all the guest for coming and for their gifts. So I never mailed out thank you cards after my shower. Didn't need to...It would have been a waste. Had my mom not done the cards then I would have done it but thank god my mom took care of that for me. I did send out special thank you's to my mom and bridal party for all their work in planning my shower.

If I personally hand the gift to someone I certainly don't expect a thank you.

Nah, I don't ever expect them.
If you don't expect things, then you can't be mad when they don't happen.

I don't expect them for birthday or Christmas gifts but I do expect them (and in a ralatively timely fashion) for any formal party like a shower, wedding, christening, communion, etc. I don't count the Thank you for sharing my day notes on the favors as a real thank you note.

Re: Thank yous ?

Im kinda big on thank you's. Well not big but I expect them and I think the only reason I expect them is because I'm such a stickler about doing them myself.

I dont know WHERE I got it from( maybe all the slack from not thanking people as a child..lol) but I send thank yous for everything...

And I like when I get one, not so much to even say thank you for this that or the other thing..but to show someone appreciated something.

I gave away some of my old wedding stuff on LIW and someone who I gave stuff too sent me a formal thank you. I didnt need that, but it sooo nice to see they appreciated it.

eta- I never got a TY for a wedding gift from like 2 years ago and I still wonder..we'll did they get it, was it not enough? LOL ..why didnt I get a TY? he he he. I Dont CARE really, but I wonder why because its typically done.

I disagree. I get offended when people don't send thank yous.

Or, how we went to that Communion. We gave $125 check. Our "thank you" card didn't even say "thank you".

It was a 2 liner saying "I'm glad you came. It was nice to see you."

Me too! I mean, I don't loose sleep over it, but I just think it's common courtesy and nice that the person acknowledged and appreciated your gift, etc.

Re: Thank yous ?

I wonder the same thing about a wedding gift that I didn't get. I sent out my Invites and invited this girl from high school and ONLY because the last time I saw her she kinda invited herself. Well the day she got the invite she called me up and said Oh I got your invite Im getting married too.. THIS FRIDAY!! She DROPPED the invitation off at my house. And I still went gave her a nice gift and THEN she never showed up for our wedding Chat Icon Im still waiting for that thank you....JUST PLAIN RUDE Im always thinking hmmmm Did she get it?

Re: Thank yous ?

I could care less...I throw them out as soon as I get them anyway...a person has a lot of time on their hands to be worried about whether they get a thank you note...jmo

I do agree that it is rude to not send them out especially for a wedding...but like Red said shower, b-day...not something I'm going to fret about

I expect a thank you for a wedding or shower gift. It really bothers me that people don't have the courtesy to thank me for the gift I gave them.

I took the time to buy you a card/gift/money...you should have the courtesy to thank me for it. It's just plain rude IMO.

I agree.... not with ordinary events, though (bday, Xmas,... etc).

ETA: Oh and in a timely fashion... within 2 months is good. A year later, takes away from the sincerity... like they sent it just cause they HAD to.

I guess I'm in the minority. I expect a TY for almost all gifts. I think it's rude not to send one, and I do appreciate all TY notes that I receive.

I consider them real thank you's especially when you are thanking the person not only for sharing the day but for giving a gift... Do you need to thank them twice by sending another note??? How many times do you have to thank a person??

I think it's nice when you get them but I don't care that much if I don't get one, even though I do think it's rude. But for a wedding, after everything I went through with my thank you's, if I didn't get one from someone it would bug me more.
