I'm so excited about our trip to Bar Harbor. We won't have internet access so no LIF Chat Icon but it will be nice to get away for a week. Has anyone been there? Any last minute advice on what to see/do?

Have a great week everyone.

I've never been there, but have been curious as to what there is to do there.

They have a really nice Sheraton there that I can get at a good deal on, but I'm not sure if I should go.

Please write a review when you get home.

Have Fun!Chat Icon

where are you staying?

oops: I was thinking of Bal Harbour in Florida...silly me.

I second Arcadia National Park. It's incredible all the differences in the geography there - beaches and mountains within walking distance.

I thought the town of Bar Harbor was adorable too. There are nice stores and good Christmas shops, if you like that thing. And the restaurants are excellent too. EnjoyChat Icon

We definitely plan to go on at least a few hikes at Acadia. I'm glad the weather looks good so far. Hopefully, it will be sunny all week long.

I will definiteyl post pics when I get back. Thanks again to nrthshgrl for recommending B & H photo. I can't wait to use my new (and first) digital camera on the trip.

We went a few years ago. I loved the restaurant George's. It was great. I remember they had a great mussels appetizer. Also, one of my favorite hikes in Acadia was the Precipce, it was challenging but awesome. I also liked the Bubbles hike.

Enjoy!

Re: Leaving for our trip to Bar Harbor tomorrow

Bar Harbor is beautiful but it was MANY years ago that I was there and I was there camping.

When I go away one of the things I really do love about getting away is being away from EVERYTHING for a while - home, work, phones, TV, computers. I work in IT so I work with computers all day and then relax on them at night so to get away from them for awhile is great!!

Have Fun!!!!!

Re: Leaving for our trip to Bar Harbor tomorrow

Thanks for asking. Chat Icon It was amazing. I went with DH, his sister, his brother, FIL, FIL's wife, and their 1 year old. FIL rented a house in Southwest Harbor that was right on the water. The views were breathtaking. The weather was great. FIL mentioned going back there again. I'd love to go back next summer if we could. BIL is thinking of applying to one of the paid volunteer programs there for next summer.

We went sea kayaking, walked around Bar Harbor a few times, took a boat trip to Cranberry island, and went on several hikes. We also drove up Cadillac Mountain which was beautiful. We went to the carriage roads, which are easy/light hiking trails that bicyclists could go on. I never really went hiking before, but since my BIL and SIL are adventurous, most of the hikes were moderate or strenuous (St. Sanveur, North and South Bubble, Echo Lake Beach trail, and Pemetic). I loved Pemetic, but it was a tough trail. There were very few people at the top, which was nice. The views were amazing. I decided not to do precipice (I went to the top a different way), but DH and his siblings took that trail. BIL also did the beehive, which I was a little afraid to do.

And of course we took advantage of the fresh seafood, especially the lobsters. They are absolutely incredible. I can't believe what a difference there is between Maine lobster and lobster down here.

I'll definitely post pics, but my SIL has them all on her computer and she has to send them to us. I highly recommend going. I'm not a huge outdoor person, but I loved hiking and doing the outdoors stuff there.

Sorry this was so long, but I had such a great time.

Re: Leaving for our trip to Bar Harbor tomorrow

I am so glad you enjoyed your time in the great state of Maine! It truly is a beautiful state & has so much to offer when it comes to outdoors!

I should have told you about the lobsters! It is always a definately MUST when I am there visiting family. There is no comparision between the loster up there & here!

Bar Harbor is a beautiful town. We use to go all the time but lately when I am there, I just want to enjoy the lake my parent's house is on! I can't wait to see some pictures!!! Chat Icon
