I'm sorry, I love Oprah, bue WHO THE HELL DOES SHE THINK SHE IS TO BE GIVING PARENTING ADVICE?
There's just something about a non-parent giving parenting advice that annoys the ever-living-shite out of me. I did not see the whole thing, but I just feel she has no place telling people about their children or talking about when she's sees children in the supermarket.

The only people that have ALL of the answers on how to parent a child are non-parents. Once you have them, you're just as miffed as the rest of us.

It was very interesting. They had on the guy from Shalom in the Home. I love that show. I think what Rabbi Shumuely(sp) was saying was true.
As for Oprah giving parenting advice, I agree. However, before I had kids I would see what some other parents did and knew I would not parent that way. I would see a severe lack of discipline, being the kids best friend instead of their parent, and letting kids skate around on those stupid rollerskate/sneaker things, to name a few. I just knew I would not do those things as a parent. Now that I am a parent I still cannot see letting your kids boss you around. That is NUTS!

That is nuts, and I agree that before having children I thought those things, too, but it's the way she acts like an authority on it all that really gets to me. I still love her, but when she says things like, "Well, being a parent means...." or "As a parent, you really should..."
Statements like that should only come from someone who has children, as far as I'm concerned. Today's show wasn't even the best examply because at least she had people who DO know on her show, it's when she's all by herself and in her Oprah glory and goes on a rant about how she thinks it should be.

After the whole book scandal on Oprah.... Sam Champion (yes - the weather guy) made the comment about "getting on the Oprah bus" - And it's true.
As for her offering parenting advice - It's so easy to sit back in judgement.

Great answer- I work with kids all day and I always tell parents that my advice is from other parents in similiar situations. I know all I learned over the years is out the door once my daughter is born.

Like supernanny joe, shes not a mom right ?
all those nanny shows' parenting advice sounds so wonderful and perfect in their cool accents, tell them to come hang out with 2 toddlers, and see how long a "rule board" with stickers will last on my walls

I TOTALLY agree with this. I havent seen the show yet, but I assumed as she sometimes does, she would bring in experts in the area.
I think she does give moms credit though, she always does. no ?
