LI Doggie GTG
Okay, I figured I would start a new thread for this... Seems like some of us are interested in doing a LI GTG for the pups so... Here are a few places where we can let the dogs off leash legally -
Bayshore/West Islip - Gardiner's Park on Montauk Highway just east of Robert Moses Causeway
Smithtown - Blydenburgh Park on 347, west of Route 111 and east of Northern State end
Huntington - West Hills and Coindre Hall Parks, I can't remember exactly where they are located, but I know they are north of 25A.
Seaford - Cedar Creek Park on Merrick Road just east of Wantagh Parkway
Wantagh Park - Same road just west of Wantagh Parkway(nicer dog run)
So, let's figure out what is best for everyone and pick a date so our pup's can meet
Any weekend is good for me.

Re: LI Doggie GTG
I would love to go too but Cedar Creek and Wantagh Park are dog runs - they are in a fenced in area.
West Hills County Park is a well-kept secret that allows dogs and lots of trails. It's inMelville Iguess. BUT -- on weekends now I think you have to be a Suffolk COunty resident (which I am not).

Coindre would be better, west hills is really small, and fenced in, which isn't really safe, too many dogs in a small area.

Oh I never went to the dog run there -- I go on the trails.....miles and miles of trails.... but Ebony would never run away so maybe I am the odd man out

Re: LI Doggie GTG
Misty doesn't run away either, but I would think it might be safer to do a run for those dogs that can be unpredictable. Anyway, here's some info...Coindre Hall
From what I have heard, as long as you keep your dogs to the left side of the mansion it's okay to have them off-leash. Another link for your enjoyment . Coindre Hall Dog Run If this is good for everyone, all we have to do is pick a date. Preferably a weekend for me

Re: LI Doggie GTG
How does May 13 sound...Saturday morning(day before Mother's Day), maybe early like somewhere around 10 a.m. before it gets busy there. We could have coffee and dognuts Sorry had to throw that in there...

I'd like my dog to make some friends, she loves to play with other dogs. Does anyone else have a big dog?

I do, Gus is a 1 year old (his birthday was 4/8), yellow lab, weighing in at 103 pounds! sometimes he plays a little rough, but he's a good boy....
is your dog, I'm sorry I don't know her name, a chocolate lab?
ETA: I just looked at your avatar pic again...boxer?

OK good, you're dog is big too. Mine is a bull Mastiff. She was 82.6 pounds on her last trip to the vet so I'm guessing she's about 85 or so now. (she was only 67 when we got her 5 months ago, she was an abused dog. ) Not that you'd ever know it, she's so playfull and loveable.
eta- Her name is BellaImage Attachment(s):

Re: LI Doggie GTG
Ebony is 98 lbs. of Lab mush. He is almost 11 years old tho so he has slowed down a little. Actually after the initial butt sniff, he isn't too interested in anything that cannot throw a ball...
He doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

Re: LI Doggie GTG
Definitely none of my dogs could go there. It is not that they are not voice trained in our own yard, but at least 2 of them run too fast if something happens....especially Pyxie.

I think it has both -- a dog run and an open area -- no, Gerty?
May 13 looks good to me too.
