When choosing airlines do you favor one over another?
When we booked our HM our travel agent told us she favors non-American airlines for international travel because the American airlines have had more instances of terrorism. We're now booking another trip and American Airlines is cheaper than the other airline, and I am wondering about what she said...
For US flying I like cushy seats and TVs.

I've never flown internationally, but when i do fly, it's always Jet Blue if they go to that destination.

I dont' like American airlines for international travel in general - planes are smaller and entertainment is crap. Plus you have to pay for drinks and the food *****.
Where are you going? I try to fly Virgin from London to NY, but I like BA also, and I don't really have any complaints about United.

I will check my usual airlines first (American, AirTran) but I will book with whomever has the best times and price.

We were flying Jet Blue, but I think we may stop after all of the issues they have had with accidents or problems in recent times.
I like United the best of the airlines, but honestly, I usually go for the cheapest nonstop flight I can get, as long as I have heard of the airline. All of the planes seemed cramped with crappy food to me.

I flew Continental to/from London in January and it was great. The plane was new and had tv's in the seats just like Jetblue.

Re: When choosing airlines do you favor one over another?
I do like some airlines better than others; I would think that all Western airlines (ie British Air, Air France) are similarly targeted.
I'd be hesitant to fly on an airline from a developing country because I'd worry that their standards for safety are not the same as ours. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.
I do know that I will fly Virgin Atlantic whenever possible (international only) because I love them.

We're going to Jamaica. We flew Air Jamaica last time. They are OK--cramped, bad food, but OK. American Airlines is slightly cheaper this trip, but both are non-stop...

Does American have any issues? I feel like last time she was just trying to sell us on Air Jamaica but it made me hesitant this time. DH thinks I am crazy.

They have had problems with their landing gear a few times this past year and had to make emergency landings. I keep meaning to do more research on this because I also heard that they do their maintenance outside of the US and the safety standards may not be the same (but honestly, I have nothing to back that up, so I want to investigate more....)
ETA; Found this article: link
Perhaps it has more to do with the model of plane they fly.

I do too. But if JB is not going where I am, I really don't care which airline I fly.

I've flown to the caribbean many times on American and I thought it was fine. I took them to St. Martin, Turks & Caicos and Aruba. Try (if you can) to get the exit row seat behind first class, their is a ton of legroom.

you have to remember that JetBlue saves money on how quickly they can get the plane off the ground... we flew them to Rochester, NY many times without any problems..

Don't know if it'd be the same flying to Jamaica as it is transAtlantic. I just have more of a beef with the services on such a long flight. And I'm not sure if it was just the weather or what, but both our arriving and departing flight at Christmas were bumpy.

When I go to a foreign country I like to take that nation's air carrier. I find that the services are better and the times they fly into and out of the country are better than other carriers.

Fear of terrorism, or is it the service?
