Re: Opinions (advice needed) PLEASE..job related
I work from home, my company moved to PA and it is very tough to be at home 24/7. Don't get me wrong there are definitely perks to it. You can work in your pjs and don't have to travel in the snow and/or rain, but there are major negatives as well. You don't have the daily social interaction with people. I feel more pressure than if I worked in the office. You miss a lot of the office chit chat - your basic source of knowledge of what's going on in the office and with the company. I am always overworking even though when you're in an office you're not working every second of the day. It's tough. It sounds glamorous but it really isn't. You're alone in a house for 10+ hours a day!

So do you think its a bad thing?? Im interested?
I can say that my position would be DONE after my 8 hours, I wouldnt even have access to work past then if I wanted to. Its a straight 8 1/2 hours( 1/2 for lunch) job.
My current job is VERY stressful, this one wouldnt be, but again, I like the people I work with. I think Im actually gonna talk to them about a GTG once a month if I leave..lol
In reality I KNOW how hard it will be to work from home, I cant watch TV or play online because I have production to meet, so it will be like work but in my PJ's

People dream of getting SAH jobs like this. You will not be spending money on eating out or gas and it will be so worth it. Hands down, do it. Stop thinking about it.

i voted Yes, and take the paycut, but i've never worked from home, so i cant say for sure if i would miss the 'interaction part' of it (im sure i'd find ways to modify that though).
i think its an excellent opportunity, and especially with wanting a family, would allow for the flexibility for that.
As far as the money- i know its hard, and if youre living pay check to paycheck (not sure if thats the situation) But if its a situation where every penny counts, it makes it a little harder, BUT if thats not the case, then you really have to put the money issue aside. At my previous job, i was MISERABLE to say the least. And i can generally make myself happy no matter where i am.. NOT at that place. it was totally taking a toll on me, and even changing who i was at home. I was making great money, could bascially go in whatever time i wanted (as long as i worked 8 hours), and could wear whatever i wanted (flip flops, sweatpants, etc ). A few months before the wedding (when money was obviously TIGHT) i was offered a position at the place i work now. The initial salary was over $8K less than where i was, dress code, set hours, all that stuff. BUT its a 7 minute commute, i work with Great people, and most importantly Im HAPPY again.
my point (in that drawn out story ) is that, like other people said, you really have to sit down and think about WHAT your priorities for work are, and Which situation would make you the happiest. and really try to put the money worry aside b/c honestly, i save SOO much $$$ now w/ the short commute, and i go home for lunch (all that stuff adds up more than you know) AND i feel like i actually have more $$$ put away now then when i was making That much more.
would they let you go back to the position you were in if you were truly miserable being at home??? (if so, that may make it worth it to at least give it a try, ya know?)
good luck, Donna!
