There are safe rules to cosleeping and one of them is not keeping the baby between you although most people who cosleep do.

Re: This is why I wouldnt let my baby sleep in my bed
I am afraid of that too, which is why I spent so many nights on the couch.
Now we have the co sleeper, I feel so much more comfortable that way.

Which co-sleeper do you have?

That is very dangerous! You should never put a baby to sleep in between 2 adults, especially ones that are sleep deprived!

I don't understand how people could let their baby sleep in bed wit them, it is just dangerous. They could get rolled over on, or get smothered by a pillow or blanket!

I don't think you appreciate the desperation that comes with caring for a newborn. Sleep deprivation is a torture method. Fortunately for me, my baby was happy in a swaddle, but if she hadn't been I would have considered nearly anything after a few weeks. If your baby cried and cried, you tried everything, and she gets quiet suddenly when you lie next to her -- poof, you become a cosleeper. I agree that you should try other methods first, but at some point you have to survive.

I agree with this. I saw my sister go through this. She swore she woudl never do it, but it was the only thing that got her baby to sleep. Its not a good habit to get into, but I don't judge anyone who does it.

I totally agree. It's easy to say oh I will NEVER do this when you haven't even had your baby yet, sometimes it's just hard not to when you are sleep deprived for days.

Re: This is why I wouldnt let my baby sleep in my bed
my husband responded to a call a few months ago where the woman rolled over her baby and killed it. The part that got him the most is that this is the second time she did it! Needless to say, he tells all new moms this story b.c it really bugged him- and we will NEVER

Re: This is why I wouldnt let my baby sleep in my bed
I don't plan on turning in for the night with our baby. Taking a nap with just me and the baby on our king size bed, maybe, but not full-mode sleep.

I totally agree with this too. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. You can't really say that you won't do it when you haven't had the baby yet.
I too have seen the co-sleeper thing too. I think BRU has it...would that be a safe thing to have in the bed though with the risk of SIDS?

Now we have the co sleeper, I feel so much more comfortable that way.
Which co-sleeper do you have?
We now have the mini co sleeper, which is like a bassinet that attaches to the bed with one side open.
We also tried the snuggle nest, which is like a box that goes in your bed, but she would not sleep in it.
I agree with the above posters about doing what you have to do. I pesonally never felt comfortable having her in the bed because I am afraid, but that is just me. I would never judge anybody who does it. I would have if I wasn't so scared. We did try different ways of having her in bed with us safely, we even put the pack and play mattress over ours for a few nights.

Re: This is why I wouldnt let my baby sleep in my bed
I would do anything that would make the baby sleep. I am a worry wort so I know I will not be sleeping soundly. Maybe a few 15 to 20 min naps during the night if I'm lucky. The slightest noise wakes me up. I'm used to being waken up during the middle of the night by DH's snoring. Even when he breates heavily during his sleep I wake up. So I expect to not be in a deep sleep with a baby in the house. Not that a baby is going to allow you to go into a deep sleep...
