when you hear the word "WAterBug"... you think of??
what? i always thought they were rolley poleys.. now here people call these huge locust, junebug, cockroaches with wings things waterbugs

The big nasty roach things. DH actually looked it up, to make sure we were attacking the right bugs with the right stuff & they have different names in different parts of the country.
I think I learned that in the Bronx though, on LI think I thought a waterbug was the little rollee pollee thing.

ok i think on LI a "waterbug" is the rolley poley, potato bugs things....
and in the city a "waterbug" is one of those huge winged cockroach thingies.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've heard. And I think the NYC waterbugs are junebugs in FL.
ETA -- And I never saw the winged coachrach things on LI, so maybe that's why I didn't have a another name for them. They may be on LI, but they usually are in apartments & offices & I didn't spend muchtime in either of those on LI.,
I defintely have seen them in Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan & Westchester thogh.

They key is that they are harder to kill than regular roaches! 
You have to stun it with the Raid & then smash it with a book or boot or something. And they tend to travel alone. With the smaller roaches, if you see one, there could be many others.

ETA: What you native LI'ers call a "waterbug or rolley polley" is a potato bug. We used to play with them as kids in the midwest, lol.

Yes, they're technically these. A LOT of people call the rolley polleys that though. I've heard them referred to by so many different names (pill bugs, potato bugs, water bugs, rolley polleys, etc....wonder what the heck their REAL name is?)
