Quite honestly I think the only dog that should be aloud in ANY store is a seeing eye dog - that is it! These dogs are training never to sniff out food or people.
Of course. Agreed.
I agree - I was in a health food store getting a smoothie once and all of the sudden I kicked a cat by accident while I was hurrying down an aisle! I was very suprised. I know they keep them around to kill mice but I was not happy since I am deathly allergic to them.

Except for "helper" animals, I don't think any pets should be allowed in stores (except maybe pet stores) and I am a HUGE animal lover. Not only are allergies an issue, but so are people who are afraid of dogs. Also what happens if some little kid sees the dog, goes running up to it all excited, scares the dog and the dog growls or bites him? Then that dog owner, and the store as well are looking at a huge lawsuit. \

I agree with you. Just wait until a little kid gets biten cause he wanted to play with the cute dog. Or a dog ruins the store. My dogs are very well trained. But they are still animals. They came from the wild at one point so who knows what could set them off. You never know and honestly I wouldn't want to be the one who has a nice lawsuit to pay off for the next few years.....

I bring my dogs to stores like that- Duane Reade, CVS, etc. I actually bring them everywhere- work, on vacation, etc. It's a "nyc" thing I think.... I don't allow my dogs to stick their noses into the products to be sold. I think owners need to be mindful of their animals.
edited to say- plenty of people allow their kids to "handle" products- ruin them, etc and put them back... kids carry way more germs than dogs. Yet, we don't make kids stay outside.
it's an ownership/parenting issue. I don't think it should be applied to all dogs.
ditto. where i go---- my dogs go. unless they arent allowed in. otherwise, they go in with me. and are well behaved. id never let myv dog sniff people, products, etc. they are small and i would NEVER leave them outside to be stolen. i agree with sassy.... vthis shyouldnt be applied to all dogs. some people actually TRAIN their dogs how to act. and i have to agree that kids can be worse--alot worse.
either way, like i said they go everywherew with me.
unfortunatly, on LI dogs arent allowed in very many places andn hence whyc i dont live there. li is not dog friendly enough
ETA: my point is this: if my dogs are allowed in a store, they go in. if they are not, then they dont---and neither do i.
if you dont like to see dogws in stores? shop at thowse that do not permit them.
and before anyone says anything to me about fleas or allergies---- my dogs dont have fleas and one of them is hypo-allergenic.
