What little things do I need for Miss Bean?
I am trying to figure out what little things I need-I am talking about thermometers, nail clippers, things of that nature.
What do I really need?

You could prob get one of those little kits that has everything like that in it. I like the BPA free one the red cross makes I think. I would get some tiny baby nail files to use they are really soft, and I know I am scared to clip the baby's nails.

Thanks! I think I have one on my BBB registry. Maybe I will pick it up with one of my coupons.

there is only one boogie sucker that actually works, IMO. It is white and has a long skinny part with the bulb. The others did nothing, but DD hates them anyway!

Re: What little things do I need for Miss Bean?
Hey Michi, if you don't have it already please get this:
Best nasal aspirator. In the universe.
As a backup, THIS IS IMPORTANT, please steal the one from the hospital, it is a softer rubber and gets way more traction than the "retail" boogie busters, they just suck. Knowing what I know now, you should steal like 5 of 'em, and leave 'em everywhere, your diaper bag, changing station, car, dh's car, dh's diaper bag, grandma's, etc.
Also run to costco or bj's or whatever big box store y'all have down there and buy that mega box of different sized batteries. A lot of the itty bitty baby stuff needs C's and D's (swing, bassinette, yaddayadda), later on I find I can't have enough AA and AAAs. You will thank me the day your swing dies and you have 'em in the house

Good to know about the batteries.
Sure thing, another tip - most of the baby gear tucks the batteries in a screwed-closed compartment, so it's a PITA to check what size batteries you need when it dawns on you that the thing needs replacements. SO, as you assemble all your baby gear take a second to put a label or a post it on there with the # and size batteries you need for that item; that way you'll know what you need as it starts to slow down, and won't find yourself at Duane Reade buying 400 Cs when you needed D's. Which I did too many times to count and finally started labelling everything

Thanks Colette! I will have to invest in that thing! And I am definitely stealing as much stuff as I can from the hospital!
Funny you mentioned the batteries-I started stocking up on all different types! I will thank you the day her swing dies!

Re: What little things do I need for Miss Bean?
Definitely steal the aspirator from the hospital...and the thermometer-- for the 1st year, I was told only rectal temps, no ear or temporal thermometers before then-- the hospital thermometer is, by far, the fastest registering. Also swipe the dry-wipe things--steal the whole bunch everytime DC is with you so they keep replacing them, you can't use regular wipes for a while.
You'll definitely need to get an emery board, you can't clip their nails for 2 weeks, and once you can, those tiny nails are like razor blades. For the 1st 6mos, it's Tylenol only, so don't spend the $$ on Motrin. You might also want to get gripe water or Mylicon drops to have on hand, newborns get really bad gas & it's the saddest thing to see.

Ooh thanks! I didn't know I could swipe a thermometer! They are going to love me there! I already planned on swiping all of the diapers, wipes, maxi pads and receiving blankets!

Re: What little things do I need for Miss Bean?
Things you need:
1) Nail clipper 2) Baby nail files 3) Thermometer (rectal and ear - I like the ear one to get a quick read if DD feels warm and I use the rectal to get an exact temp which is important when you call the ped) 4) Nasal Aspirator (I like the battery powered one) 5) Infant Tylenol 6) Vaseline 7) Triple Paste works AWESOME for a diaper rash 8) A LOT of cloth diapers to use as burp cloths 9) A LOT of bibs 10) Size 1 diapers - they grow out of NB size FAST 11) Lots of oneise feetie pj's - my DD lived in these the first few weeks 12) A good infant tub - I had the one by The First Years and loved it 13) Tiny Love mobile - kept my DD occupied for hours! 14) A good diaper bag with lots of pockets and storage so you can tote around everything you need 15) Kiddopotamus Posh Pouch for the infant carrier so the baby stays nice and warm without being overbundled - BEST thing I owned
Things you totally DON'T need:
1) Wipes warmer 2) Bottle warmer 3) Boppy pillow - although some people may disagree but I never used mine 4) Rain cover for stroller - who the heck has time to get that on the stroller in the pouring rain when you're running from store to store? 5) Bottle rack - a $2 Target drainboard worked so much better 6) Bumbo type seat - such a waste of $$ IMO - we used it once 7) A ton of different bottles and binkies - wait to see what your DC likes. My DD ended up not being a binky baby at all and I wasted so much $$ on Born Free bottles when the Playtex Drop Ins worked SO much better for me
