If going on just my income it's 52% before taxes. Our PMI is really high and so are our taxes right now at 1,000 a month. We just closed in Sept and haven't gotten a grievance yet.
My husbands income fluctuates so I would assume we fall around the 35% mark also.

About 22% of our combined household take home.
Same....and I max my 401k....I'm actually surprised at some of the #s!
When we closed it a was around 30% Taxes go up and people's financial situations change sometimes.
Exactly. Everyone's financial situations are different and can change at any time. To be honest, I'm surprised there were so many in the 20% range. I always thought 33-35% was average.

Honestly I was too..when I asked I assumed most people especially here on LI with the high costs of taxes and houses would be around the 30-40% range which is where we will be. This is net obviously not gross which lets be honest if I brought home my gross salary I would be ecstatic .
We also sock quite a decent chunk of change automatically into 401K, retirement, FSAs and DDs 529 so it's 30-40% range after all that is taken out.

I couldn't agree more. We bought a house that was exactly half of what we were approved for, we live in a part of LI where taxes are low comparatively and our income has increased significantly over the years.

What percentage of your net income goes to mortgage?
Oh I get peoples financial situations change-mine included. Two in daycare equals my mortgage! I wasn't expecting so many close to 50%. I was expecting 20s and 30s...not so many 40s and 50s.

I guess around 40ish%. That's for mortgage, taxes, and homeowners.

Re: What percentage of your net income goes to mortgage?
Huh, who knew. 17%. That is our net income and just mortgage, not including the extra we put toward it each month and/or taxes. No PMI. We really did buy an affordable home! (We don't make a lot of money, not by LI standards at least!).

What percentage of your net income goes to mortgage?
About 20%. We could have gone higher but our student loans equal a mortgage payment and then add in childcare. We bought on the very low end of our ability to be able to not stress about bills.
