What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
Hi,
Ava is 10 months old. The dr. wants me to start giving her more table food and break away from jarred and the bottle.
My question is. What can I give her for lunch, besides Grilled Cheese sandwich, yogurt, cheese?? I am clueless.
We eat horrible and I don't want our bad habits to effect her ..
Any meal ideas would be GREATLy appreciated.
Thank you so much, Denise

I know that avacado is safe because we give that at only 7 months.
what about cooking up various types of squash?
pastina?
mac & cheese?
homemade fruit & yogurt parfaits? hehee.
I am not an expert but maybe these things would be okay . If not too many people have other suggestions I can whip out my "What to Expect the first year" book there are tons of ideas in there.
Cook up a sweet potatoe and give her the insides?
i heard that soft, boneless fish is okay too.

Re: What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
Thanks,
She loves Mac and Cheese (but how good could that be for her).
Re: the avocado (please forgive the ignorance here), but I was not brought up eating them. I have no idea where to buy one, what one looks like, how to prepare it??
She does eat fruit and loves yogurt.
Thanks so much, Denise
ETA: She HATES pastina, don't know why?

Re: What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
you can get an avacado at a regular grocery store...i find mine both by the potatoes and the zucchini -- they have it in two places.
buy one that is just a bit soft to the touch, not too squishy but not hard either.
then cut it completely around the middle all the way around.
pop the pit out with the knife
you cut it right into chunks within the shell, then scoop the chunks out from the shell with a spoon, it is so hard to describe but they do it on the food network all the time and it's super easy -- that's how i learned to do it.
just give her the small chunks. it's very soft and easy for her to mush down. emily loves it. it also um --- helps with constipation --- lol -- so not too much at a time but if she's having problems -- well, avacado seems to help! LOL.

i also want to add that i steam baby carrots for emily and cut them up into small pieces and you could probably steam all kinds of veggies and just make sure they are cut up small.
also emily likes to eat rice -- i just give her one grain at a time but you can probably do more. and i also cut up tiny bits of chicken when we have that for dinner.

Re: What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
okay -- i pulled out my what to expect the first year -- this is all on the 8th month list so it should definately be OK for 10 months...
"good choices include: whole wheat bagel whole grain bread or toast rice cakes or other crackers that become mushy in the mouth oat circle cereals (cheerios) wheat or rice puffs tiny cubes of natural but pasturized cheese such as swiss, cheddar, edam, harvarti, chunks of ripe bananas very ripe pear peach apricot cantelope honeydew or mango small chunks of cooked to very tender carrot white or sweet potatoe yam brocolli or cauliflower - flowerettes only peas cut in half or crushed flakes of broiled, baked or poached fish (but screen carefully for bones) soft meat balls, cooked in sauce or soup so they don't get crusty well cooked pasta of various sizes and shapes break up before or cut after cooking as necessary - if they contain no ingredients that baby isn't allowed yet scrambled or hard cooked egg yolk (whites are more allergic) cubes of soft cooked french toast or whole wheat pancakes - made with egg yolk only
hold off on raw veggies/fruit and things like grape halves (skinned) until baby's molars ome in.
i hope this helps!

Re: What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
Thanks so much.
I still give her cereal with formula and fruit morning and night. Should I still be doing that?
Any ideas for lunch in particular? Should it consist of a fruit, veggie, protein??

Re: What should she eat? Meal Ideas Please
again -- Emily is 3 months younger so i don't know about cutting out the cereal -- i'd ask the doctor about that bcause i know that the cereal is important for iron --- but you might be able to give alternating combinations for lunch/dinner -- and just make sure that she gets a good meal of cereal at breakfast.
