What size bike for 5 year old?

We want to get Megan her first "real" bike for her 5th birthday.

I am not sure what size to get her. I want her to be able to ride it now obviously (she is tall for her age) but I also want her to be able to use it in a few years. Was wondering what size your kids have. TIA!

Lauren's got a 20" right now, still with training wheels. It's a tad big, but she manages and will be able to have it a few years.

I'd definitely say between 16 & 20". For DD's 4th bday we got her a 16" & she is tall for her age (but everything is on the lowest setting).

I'd go to the store & have her sit on them.

I think you def. need to have her sit on the bikes to see. Even if you know her height - some kids have longer legs etc. My DS will be 4 in a month (very tall for his age) and we just bought him a 16 inch with training wheels. He rides it just fine but, everything is on the lowest setting and his feet just touch the ground.

Alyssa has a 16 inch ... we got it last year when she turned 4. It was perfect with the seat all the way down. She just turned 5 and this summer we did lift the seat up a little bit. She still has room to grow though. She is 43 inches. You may want to have her sit on a few though at the store just to make sure. I wanted to surprise DD for hwer bday so I just bought her to the stpore and circled around that section and she acked to "play" on the bikes for a few minutes. You could do that and then just go back to get whichever one you want.Chat Icon

My son is seven with a 24 in since he was 6 and honestly I could see how he could outgro it and go bigger right now. But he is a big kid, over four feet and his bike is a smaller frame fr 24 in / We chose 24 in because he was an awesome bike rider and we would take him on 5-10 mile trails that he just needed bigger wheels to keep up. He was exhausted with his smaller bike. :)
