What size Kitchen tiles?

For those of you who have tile in your kitchen what size did you go with. We have a really small kitchen (9x11) and am not sure if bigger tiles like 12 inches would be better or smaller 6-8 inch tiles would make the space look bigger. What do you think?

The rule of thumb is smaller rooms with larger tiles give the appearance of a larger room. Also installing the tile diagonal achieves the same.
