What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
On a Saturday, my DD's 1st B-day
1-5pm or
3-7pm ????
(or neither....different time)
My original thought was 1pm, but if I started at 3, I could more or less be certain she would at least have a nap of some sort beforehand since I know that in the morning we will be running around doing last minute things and decorating and she may not get a good AM nap ...But 7pm is close to her bed-time and I don't want her to be a cranky mess at the end of her party....

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
Def 1-5 I think 3-7 is way too late..JMO...I know with DD she would be a cranky nightmare then... ETA: DD naps at 12 and is usually up by 2, but she's still on two naps so if she gets a good morning nap in then she's good to go usually unti 3 when if for some reason she hasn't napped by then she's an all out terror

I would prefer 3-7. Honestly my son naps from 12-3 and most toddlers do nap around that time.
I think it all depends on who you're inviting and their age.
ETA: we had my sons 1st birthday from 3-7pm. It was completely fine and he did better than i thought he would since he was preoccupied. But when 7 came around, i put him to bed... no matter if people were still here or not.

For Thomas' 1st birthday, I started the party early... 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. For his 2nd birthday, I started it at 3 p.m. so he could get a good nap in first. I think it worked out better starting it later after naptime.

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
We did 12 - 4 for both DS's first birthdays. Yes, we had a few people that could not come due to their child's nap time but that was the time that worked for us. Both times, DS napped in the morning as usual then took a later nap once we were home from the party.

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
Definitely 3-7. DD naps from 12:30-2/2:30...so I wouldn't want a party to interfere with that

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
We're doing DD's 1st birthday party 1pm-5pm only because it has to be on a certain Sunday and my stepkids need to be home by 7pm for school the next day. If I were going to a party, I would prbably like it a little later so DD can have her nap. Either one is great though- whatever works for your family!

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
i would say whichever works better for YOUR dd..honestly, most of my friends even if their kid napped during the party, would make arrangements to have them nap at another time that day.. i thought that was kind of standard

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
Honestly, neither time. If you are having lots of young children, then I would rather a morning/lunch party. If the party is just an adult party, then mid afternoon.

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
Oh boy, I should have done a poll...It looks like its split down the middle
We are having both adults and kids and looks like we are renting a VFW type place ( DD's b-day is in January)...
I am going to try my best to make it a good time for my DD, but I honestly don't know which of those times would be better....
If I go w/ the earlier time, I run the risk of her doing one of her nap strikes and not napping AT ALL ...
If I go w/ the later time, she'll have had a nap in, but I'm worried about it being real close to bed time

What she said
My kids are religious nappers and with twins you just don't mess with the schedule. They are 2 1/2 and maybe, just maybe I could push it a bit but no way the entire time slot... we'd have to rsvp no.
Even on vacation we are napping from 12-3... often mom and dad too

Re: What start time would you prefer for a childs party?
3-7 - it's after naptime and it doesn't kill your whole day - you can run errands in the am with plenty of time to spare.
