what the heck am I supposed to do...

I went to my families mechanic to have my inspection done. He told me I needed brakes (4 weeks ago). SInce then, they are grinding and I hear a metal noise. Ive brought it back to him more then a few times with Gillian (bc I pick her up from daycare after work). Again, same problem. I went back and he told me..."You keep bringing this car back again, and again and you keep the kid in your arm trying to make us do something...we've accomodated you"...I was like ar eyou kidding? So now my brakes are still in bad shape and apparently I "used" my dd to get them fixed. Should I just go to mitsubishi and save the time and energy?

I'm confused. Did he never repair the brakes? If he hasn't, I would go elsewhere. Why give someone business if they are so jilted?!

Just to clarify...he put in the sh#tty brakes. The brakes sounded fine prior. He wouldnt do the inspection until new brakes were put in. Now he is telling me I am using my dd for him to fix "his" brakes.

Brake sound is not a sign of malfunction.

I used to be married to someone working in the car industry. They used to have customers telling them that they messed up their brakes so I know from him the noise does not mean the brakes are bad.

That does not mean they did not mess it.

Re: what the heck am I supposed to do...

so you go back down there without Gilly and give them grief and see what they say. Better yet CALL them give them greif, explain the situation that your DD needs to go with you and your not using her to get brakes ect..

Re: what the heck am I supposed to do...

I would take the car some where else and have them looked at

and if I charged the brakes on a CC card I would dispute the charges

what are you suppose to do with you DD leave her home alone while you go to the shop? this guy sounds like a gem

Because he is your family's mechanic, he is supposed to be trustworthy & reliable. That's why you went to him.

I would go back if they're still grinding. With or without Gilly. Tell him having a child has nothing to do with his poor work. You paid $250 for him to fix the brakes. They aren't supposed to grind & you expect him to do a job right - otherwise he can refund you your money & you'll go to someone who can fix your brakes.

If he refuses to refund the money, I would tell him you have no choice but to ante up for the few dollars it takes to go to small claims court & the Better Business Bureau.

I agree about going back there without Gilly and making a big FUSS! There is no way your brakes got that bad in one year where you needed new ones. And, don't go back to that mechanic. You probably won't get your money back, but it's worth threatening to make a complain to the BBB unless they return your money. Then I would go to Mitsubishi.

Re: what the heck am I supposed to do...

you already needed brakes on an 07?

no way - I don't believe it

I just got brakes on my SUV and it's 2 years old with 40K milies - and the brake light wasn't even on yet- but they had my car at the dealership and they had told me I needed brakes the last time- so I just told them to do them b/c I felt like the light was going to come on the second I drove off the lot

and was this your first inspection on the car? I thought the first year was just a $10 safety inspection???

Re: what the heck am I supposed to do...

I would take the car to Mistu and ask them to check the brakes. After they confirm they are in fact crap, I would send the auto body shop a certified letter demanding a refund with a copy of the estimate of repairs from Mitsu. If they don't oblige, I would sue them in small claims court. It's like $40 or something to sue someone and well worth it for him giving you the run around!!!

yes- that does- brakes last a certain number of miles- not time

you might have needed them with that many miles

that was when my dealership first suggested I get them- but neither myself nor my DH thought I did

I would take the car to the dealership- DON'T tell them the story- just ask them to check the brakes

if you tell them what happened- they are most certainly going to tell you should replace them- but this way- you will get a more honest answer IMO
