What to do if a cell phone breaks? *update*
DH dropped his phone, more than once and since it's a flip phone, it's not closing properly. there are some plastic pieces missing, that's the best way to describe it.
I just called Verizon and since we're not eligible for an upgrade yet, a replacement would cost $200!! 
Has anyone bought a cell phone on eBay? if so, how was your experience?

UPDATE: I went to the Verizon store at the Smithaven mall and they're sending me a brand new phone for $50!   YEA!

I havent bought on ebay, but I have sold on ebay.....Just read the descriptions really well, and look for a newer phone. Also make sure that the cellphone you are buying is good for the service you have. It also helps a lot if you could reuse your sim card in that phone, so you dont have to re add all of your numbers and info again. After you buy a new one, and remove your sim card, then you can sell your broken phone on ebay. People will buy anything, including a broken cell phone, believe me

thanks. I just did a search and found the exact same phone for only $40! the seller has a TON of neg. feedback though  I only buy from vendors with 99% or higher positive feedback.
I'm going to go to the Verizon store and see if they have refurbished phones I can buy.

add insurance to your lan and then have it fixed. That's what I did and it was free.

You can see if someone has an old verizon phone laying around and just switch the SIM card to the new phone.

maybe I'll get the insurance like someone said and then have them fix it, but I don't think I can. I just looked at his phone again and there is a piece of the metal missing in addition to the hinge.

hun this just happened to me last week...i have a verizon phone also and no insurance--they wont let u add on insurance now...cause then too many pple will call with complaints a month later 9hehehe i tried!) lol...but they tell u to take it to ur local verizon store, let the technician look at it..and then they will decide what they can do for you, they let me replace my phone for 50 bucks..which was a lot better then paying 200 for a whole new one..if that doesnt work then i would buy a phone on ebay :)

Ugh...that stinks!
I've always had insurance on my phone...thankfully. One time my Grandma spilled homemade lemonade on it , while showing me the squash from her garden. The guy at Verizon laughed at me
Anyway...see about getting a new phone...then make sure you get insurance.
When are you eligible for a new phone?

I am hoping to get a refurb. I did that once at Radio Shack when I had Sprint. They sold me a refub for $80 and it lasted until I switched to Verizon, a few years later.
