what to do with baby who only sleeps through the night swaddled?
So I've been using the swaddle me on Paxton for the past week and he's been sleeping a good 11-12 hours. I feel bad because it crosses at his forearms because it's too small. I have a bigger size but he doesn't sleep as well because it's not as tight. I'm not a great swaddler, he always breaks out of my blankets. What do I do as he gets older. He already rolled once. I don't want to hinder his development in any way but I could get used to the long sleep. Is there a certain age where you shouldn't swaddle anymore? He's 3 months.

We swaddled Ethan until 6 months old! So I say swaddle away.

We swaddles DS to about 4 months or so. You wont hinder his development as long as he gets plenty of floor time when he is awake to practice. I say if it works, keep swaddling.

I literally just read in this book Baby Facts, that you should not swaddle after they can roll over... but everyone has a different opinion.

DD was swaddled till she was 8 months old. Was the ONLY way she slept. She never flipped over while she was swaddled.

What doc said it was fine until they were about 5-6 months old...He did say if they rolled over, prob wouldn't be a good idea...but if they roll, their arms are tucked underneath them anyways without the swaddle you kinda get the same effect no?
My DD was in it til she was almost 6 months old..and would still be sleeping in it after she broke out..She's a total belly sleeper even to this day at 2 years old.

DD will only sleep swaddled. She will also only sleep swaddled with her arms out. She also seems to be on the verge of rolling over onto her stomach, but I'm not going to stop swaddling her especially since we do arms out. (She is 4.5 months)

Re: what to do with baby who only sleeps through the night swaddled?
call me crazy and a bad mom - but DD was swaddled til 10 months, yes i said it 10 months.. and i would do it all over again, she slept 12 hours from 6 weeks on and is still a great sleeper.... she wasnt hindered at all. she crawled at 9 months, walked the week after her first birthday.
At 10 months she gave up the swaddle herself - popped out of it in her sleep and didnt wake up, so the next day we swaddled one arm out, then the next both arms out, then just a sleep sack no swaddle, then no sleep sack...
she never rolled over though...

I agree with Jen! We swaddled until 7 months (at night) and 9 months for naps. DS set the tone, we stopped swaddling when he would break out before he was even in the crib. DS slept through the night from 7 weeks and has been a great sleeper.
DS crawled at 9 months and walked at 10.5 months, so it didnt slow him down.
So while I am pro swaddling for long periods....I will say though that I always swaddled with a rec blanket and DS always got out at some point in the night. but it never affected his sleep, once he was deep in sleep nothing woke him up!!!
