what to do with support pole when finishing basement?
We're in the process of finishing our basement. What did you do with the support poles in yours? Did you box them out or just paint them? If you have pics, please share!

me personally I would build it into the sheetrock so its surrounded and not seen at all

You could cover them to make columns and incorporate in your decor.
Columns can be as simple as a square box around the pole or as fancy as you want them (Victorian style, etc..)

we sheetrocked some and some we are just going to wrap carpet around them if they are say in a laundry room where who really cares what they look like

we had ours removed and had a steel beam put in. With the layout of our basement (actually lower level of a hi-ranch), there were 2. One was hidden inside a wall that was built for a bedroom/office room and the other one was smack dab in the middle of the room. So we had it taken out. I'll see if I can find pics.... It is just construction pics, we haven't had it finished yet.

They sell stuff call pole wrap. It looks like a column. You can get a cap to finish it off on either end.
