What to send to family whose mom got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer
Our good friends moved to the west coast this summer. The mom just got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and will most likely not live for a year. They have 2 beautiful girls ages 6 and 3. The news is shocking and devastating. I want to do something for the family and not sure what.
Would a photo shoot be a terrible gift?
I thought it may be nice to capture some memories.
DH thinks we should send them a meal from a local restaurant. I want to do more than that.

If you could swing the cost of photo shoot i would do that.....pictures will capture their time with their mom and serve as a reminder for when she is gone.

We also got a video when my mom was sick. Meant a lot to us. It interviewed her friends, etc.

Would it be appropriate to visit them?
When they moved, we promised to visit. We were already talking about a visit before we found out about the cancer.
I feel so bad for the girls. I don't think they know yet except that mommy is sick.

I think this would depend on how she was feeling and if she was up for visitors.
OMG this is just so awful and it makes me feel sick
I'm so sorry.

Re: What to send to family whose mom got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer
I'm so sorry to hear that news, that is devastating beyond words.
I agree that the photo shoot sounds really lovely, it will be nice for the girls to have those pics as they get older so they can remember their mommy.
The only other thing I can think of, which might be too costly, but how about talking to her DH and planning some kind of weekend getaway for them? This way it's just them and the girls, special quality time together, and good memories. Nothing extravagant, a simple and small trip just to get away, relax, and focus on their family.
And to answer your question, as long as she feels up to it I think a visit to see her would be so nice too!!

Mom is still working. They actually moved for the mom's job. Mom is breadwinner and holds all the benefits.
It is just so unfair. Mom is so healthy. She runs marathons and is a tremendous athlete.

God it's so scary. You do everything right, health wise, and you still get hit with this. It's just so random and so terribly unfair.

Re: What to send to family whose mom got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer
I really like the idea of a photo shoot.
Depending on how's she's feeling may dictate if she wants visitors. But I think it's such a nice idea, since her kids are going to have a very rough year, and I feel like ignorance is bliss (until of course the parents think it's the right time to tell them) and they should have fun memories with their mom before they have to deal with such devastating news.
I will keep them in prayer, I'm so sorry for you and yours friends.
