Breast Cancer Stage III
Just found out some horrible info on a friend of ours.
I looked it up & now know that stage III indicates it's in the lymph nodes as well as the breast. I do know someone who had Stage IV & 3 years later is doing very well but she was on experimental drugs.
Does anyone know what this means in terms of recovery? hope?
This came as a complete shock to the family & in the surgeon's words (who was crying at the time): "it's a real mess in there".

I don't know how it relates to recovery, however, DH's father was just diagnosed with Stage IV back and chest cancer.

Just don't lose hope. Cancer treatment is pretty good these days. Generally, if it's spread the lymph nodes, she will require chemo.
I'm so sorry to hear this - just keep the hope alive!

There is always hope! You and she must have it! Statistics are numbers... people are individuals. People can beat the odds!
All the cases I have read about people beating the odds all involved a positive attitude and strong will (in addition to whatever treatment was given)
for you and your friend!
ETA: I don't know anything about the stats of that particular cancer in that stage, I was just talking generally that if the stats are bad it's important not to get hung up on that.

Barb, do you know what the actual cancer is called? Not all breast cancers are the same (e.g. i have head and neck cancer but the tumor cells are specifically catorgorized by being named adenoid cystic carcinoma). If you get the name I can search on some of the cancer sites I have in my faves plus I can search on some cancer boards that I post on

once it hits the lymph nodes, it's serious because the lymph nodes is part of your immune system and sends antibodies (and cancer) if it's there throughout the body. i would imagine they will be removing those ASAP

I agree-your body can do amazing things. It is not a death sentence. Obviously its not optimal but there is hope. I would suggest she immediately start some holistic treatments-acupuncture, etc and meet with a nutritionist who specializes in cancer. Hugs to your friend.

My friend was diagnosed with Stage 4 BC five years ago. She had a mastectomy, chemo AND radiation and is doing very well.
She also went on experimental drugs and she feels 100% that they are what saved her.
She is a healthy, happy 46 year old woman now - who has walked in four consecutive three day walks since her diagnosis. And after next March, if everything comes back clear, she will be "cured".
So sorry for your friend, this is a devastating diagnosis....
