What type of finish does the paint on your walls have?
Just wondering, MIL says that all the walls painted inside the house (livingroom, bedroom, etc.) should have a matte finish, but I thought that matte finish might look too flat.
Is it true that all interior walls should have a matte finish?

Do not get matte if you have a child. You cannot wash it despite what anyone tells you. Go for eggshell. But realistically, yes, walls should be flat from a decorating standpoint but it's just not practical.

mine are flat....i'm scared for when we have kids  but i love the way the way the walls look, i don't like any shine on walls...
our bathrooms are eggshell...

Flat. Per my drywall guy. I got valspar washable flat. It is washable. Ds had greasy bacon fingers and decided to use my walls as a napkin. Came right off. No lingering chubby hand prints.

Eggshell, which is 1 level away from matte but supposedly easier to clean. Looks pretty flat to me, not much shine to it at all.

I agree. High traffic areas you wanna go with a satin or gloss. It will be much easier to wipe and clean.
For me, the type of paint finish usually depends on traffic, location and also what kind and amount of light is in the room.

eggshell on the walls, satin on all the doors, baseboard moldings, railings and trim (we have very thick moldings so I have to clean them like crazy)

Maybe Valspar but I can assure you Benjamin Moore is not washable despite what it says. You will see burnish marks wherever you wash, it's awful.

I have BM washable matte - with a toddler - no issues with cleaning it. Aesthetically, I prefer the look of the matte. It will also mask any imperfections your wall might have.

matte. We only used eggshell in the bathrooms, not a fan of the shiny look it has for the main areas. We have a toddler and have no issues and if it does get scuffed or something we have extra paint so we can just touch it up if needed.

I was told to use flat paint on the walls by my painter... He said its easy to clean and easy to touch up...
(I believe) for the molding he suggested using satin finish; since he said it makes the color pop...

eggshell on everything except for the trim (semi-gloss) and the bathroom has a light gloss (that is what the paint can said) because its for bathrooms.
