What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
What's your reason ? And has weight loss changed anything else that you didn't expect?

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
I've jumped on & off the wagon several times but next week is my restart week. After seeing pics of myself, I've realised since having my 2 boys, I've stopped thinking about myself & with my family history of diabetes & high blood pressure. Now is the time to drop the extra weight & be healthy for my kids. I also miss the way my hubby use to look at me & always was complimenting. Since the boys, the spark has dwindled & I want it back.

Very similar to my reasons. One particular thing that really bothers me is that I never want to go in the pool with my children because I don't want anyone to see me in a bathing suit. My son keeps asking why I don't want to come in the pool He also keeps asking me if my beach cover ups are my bathing suit and wonders why I don't take them off. Makes me so sad and embarrassed. I'm also tired of buying clothes that simply hide my fatness rather than buy clothes because I love them. I feel so frumpy all the time and hate that I'm totally that stereotype. Get married, have kids, let myself go....I feel like I owe myself, my husband and my kids more than that!

I saw the number 180 on the scale and realized just how close it was to 200. I had never been very skinny, but that was a number I had NEVER seen. I didn't want to look like that at my wedding. So I went on WW.

We went on vacation and I saw a picture of myself, I was seriously nauseated. I had always been very skinny (size 2-4) so I think in my head I still looked like that. Seeing a picture of me as a fat azz made me seriously commit and stick with it.

My 34th birthday party at my parents house. When my mom sent me the pictures and I absolutely HATED myself in every picture... I knew I had to do something. A little over 1 year later, I totally LOVED my pictures from my birthday this year!

What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
I gained alot of weight before and after i got pregnant with ds1 - i had a thyroid condition that wasn't diagnosed and plus my eating habits really went down the drain. then i got pregnant with ds2 never loosing any of the weight from ds1! not good.
I saw a picture that someone tagged me in the background (on fb no less) at a friends christmas party. i was sick that was me! i stayed away from cameras bc i knew i had gained weight and hated seeing myself in pics but seeing me in a pic that i didn't even know was being taken was such a reality check - i didn't even recognize myself!
BIG reality check for me. i still have 20 or so go to but I'm really motivated and determined never to get like that again!

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
Seeing a picture of myself taken in March. I usually only see myself in pics from the neck up, or in dark clothing... but something about this time was different. My arms were big, my hair was terrible (poor diet) and I just decided that I had had ENOUGH of making excuses for myself.
I got advice from my sister, who told me to download MFP, and I haven't looked back since.
My weight loss changed my DH! He was WAY more supportive than I expected him to be and he jumped on the MFP wagon shortly after I did. We have both lost a good amount of weight and we are much happier with the way we look now, which makes us happier overall.
It also changed how I view food - I focus so much more on nutrients now than I ever did.

What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
I gained alot of weight with each pregnancy. I took alot of it off after DD1, but fell off the wagon, gained 15 pounds back and then got pregnant again. I was always a size 2 or 4 when I was younger. I don't need to get that tiny again, but I am so unhappy with myself. Like everyone else, I see pictures and i'm miserable about them. I feel so embarrassed.

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
It wasn't just one thing, it was a variety that painted a picture for me that I couldn't live with.
My best friend got engaged and asked me to be in her wedding party. I knew her other friends and sisters were much thinner than me, and I didn't want to stand out as the girl that ruined the wedding pictures.
Plus, I saw a picture of myself at my heaviest, from the back Add in all the other stuff - only being able to shop in plus stores, low self esteem, health problems related to weight, feeling out of place among thinner people... Plus, I knew I could do it because I had done it before. Only, I was more focused on a fast loss for a specific event, which just was not the right approach.
So much has changed. I'd list them but this post is already a book. It really has been a life altering experience for me, and that's what I was going for because I knew if I looked at it like a temporary diet, my weight loss would be temporary as well.
This is why I smile to myself when people ask me how much I lost (70 pounds) and the next question is always how long did it take? And then, what diet or program did I follow? I think so many people are just looking for a quick fix, or to put in a limited amount of effort and then wonder why the results don't last. I always get this kind of reaction when I tell them that it's just old fashioned eating well and exercise:
Sorry, no magic diet here, just hard work.

What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
the fact that my dr told me I couldn't get pregnant (or that he wouldn't begin treatment since we are working with an RE) until I lost weight. I am very overweight and have been my entire life. I always knew I needed to lose weight, but that dr was a reality check.

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
I had a premature baby in March. I developed preeclampsia and they hd to take him out at 30w6d. I had gained about 40 lbs while pregnant with him. After he was born running back and forth to the hospital I was eating junk. None of my clothes fit and I was still wearing my maternity clothes. I was unhappy with myself and that I was at the heaviest I had ever been. Over the past 4 years- since i met my husband my weight has climbed. I had lost about 50lbs 5 years ago and I loved the way I looked then. I knew I had to get back to that. So now I am doing weightwatchers and slowly starting to get back into exercising. Also my mom joined weightwatchers with me because she said to me I am not raising your son. I want you to be here to watch him grow up, which really put everything in perspective. I am now down about 17 lbs since joing weightwatchers in June and I am feeling really good!

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
Pictures of myself, hating how I looked in clothes, not wanting to look in the mirror, knowing that I wasn't being the best teacher I could be because I was so uncomfortable with kids looking at me that I tried to stay out of the spotlight in the classroom. But mostly....I knew I needed to be healthier for my daughter. I didn't want to be a mom that couldn't play with my daughter because I was too heavy, I didn't want to set a bad example for my daughter by making poor food choices, I didn't want my daughter embarrassed to be seen by me.
So I made the choice to do something about it. I've now lost about 80 pounds since I gave birth...which was my heaviest weight ever (almost as much as my husband weighed at the time). Over the last 2 years, I've lost the last 30...and if I keep doing what I'm doing, I'm hoping to lose another 30 and be done with it!

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
After 2 years of IF treatments, stress and two babies later, I was at the heaviest I'd ever been (I've always struggled with weight). By the end of last year, I was approaching 41 and was finally disgusted enough with myself to make a change. I started WW and started working with a personal trainer at the JCC where my kids go to school/activities. Slowly as I started seeing the change in myself, I went from working out 2-3 days a week to 5-6 days a week, and paying much closer attention to what I was eating.
I hit a big plateau at 20lbs gone and switched from WW to just tracking on myfitnesspal, and what a huge eye opener that was.
The major changes I've seen in myself is how I view food, and the types of food I WANT to consume. Do I eat 100% clean? No, but I'd rather spend my calories on healthy foods. I've also become quite addicted to excercise. Days I cannot get to the gym, I actually feel so anxious, my body CRAVES the excercise.
I have even run a 5k and am signed up to run another race at the end of the month. Since mid-January I am down 48lbs with only 22lbs to go until my personal goal.

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
A could if reasons....first havng a daughter. I have struggled with my weight always and I want to be a good example for her. I don't want to obsess about the weight I need to lose in front of her. Just want to be an example of healthy eating. Second...next year I am turning 40. Third...I hate looking at pictures of myself.
The first one is m number one reason.

What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
Honestly, nothing. I didn't really decide even though I should have a long time ago.
I started down this path because my boss started WW and begged me and another co-worker to do it with her. I was kinda like, yeah, okay, sure. Then she "forced" (LOL) me to sign up for Zumba classes at work.
Seeing as I was previously eating like crap and a total couch potato, weight came off quickly at first. That's what kept me at it (and the little competition between the three of us - I've lost the most weight!).
Now I never miss a lunchtime Zumba class and started taking them on the weekend too. Looking to start Insanity this week with DH.

Re: What was it that made you decide to get serious about losing weight?
The only weight I've ever had to lose was baby weight - I'm lucky. But I can answer this question "what made you decide to get HEALTHY?" The simple answer is fear of cancer and diseases... I want to be as healthy as possible and enjoy a long life with my children. After losing my mom to cancer at the young age of 50, I made some serious changes, slowly at first, and over 2 years span have completely transformed my diet. I think that doing some research on things like this can inspire anyone to want to be healthy, and losing weight will come with that.
