Re: what was your 1st symptom and how many weeks were you?
OMG I remember all of this so vividly...
The date of my last period before I gave birth to my son (he was born September 2013) was on December 9, 2012. So, I remember the FIRST sign I had was a little light colored blood when I wiped - very little, after I went to the bathroom, and that was the day before Christmas Eve (12/23)... I'm guessing that was implantation bleeding? I had it once, for a moment, and then never again. I thought, am I getting my period early?? I was clueless. I must have conceived sometime between 12/9 and 12/23?? Who knows.
Then, two days later, on Christmas, at Christmas dinner, I made myself a big plate of food, we all sat down at the table, and I took one look at it and my stomach TURNED. I actually said to the entire family at Christmas dinner, "I feel nauseous, all of a sudden". I just thought maybe it was too much wine on Christmas Eve catching up with me the following day. I didn't eat a thing :( I just couldn't.
Then, the day after New Year's Day we left for a trip to Mexico on vacation (this was January 2013 now). I remember thinking, oh great, I'll get my period on day two or three of my vaca But then it never came. So, I thought maybe the traveling screwed it up? (Dumb, I know, but I was just happy not to have it on vacation)...
Then, I put that out of my mind completely. After two or three days, toward the end of the trip, I didn't want to eat the things I normally wanted to eat. I love guacamole and we were in Mexico for God's sake - I craved it for months before the trip and then all of a sudden, I didn't want to eat anything. What I did eat caused me to have the runs. I remember our second to last night in Mexico (First week in January, mind you it was only a few days after my missed period)... I remember being at dinner and having to go to bathroom at least four times. BAD. Then, all of a sudden, I was hungry and the ONLY thing I wanted was plain pasta and butter LOL. I normally never eat that - DH was like I asked him to order it via room service because I just wanted to lay down.
It wasn't until the plane ride home where I looked at the calendar on my phone and realized - my period is a WEEK late now, not just a few days - holy cow. Then, I thought, I'd better take a test when I get home. As soon as we got home, I took two tests and both were positive.
After that it was exhaustion and nausea for the first trimester. I never actually got sick, thank Goodness. I just felt like I would and then it would pass. But exhaustion was bad - I would come home from work and lay down and literally go to bed until the next morning. Once the first trimester ended, that went away.
I also had this thing, early on, where I would smell things that weren't there - usually bad/sour smells. I was out with my sister and mom, very early on, and I was like "eww someone is having their cesspool pumped" and they looked at me like I was crazy. The smell of chicken smelled like sour milk to me. I could not even LOOK at meat my entire pregnancy. I could not eat it My son will be 14 months old in a few weeks and I am still not into chicken - and I used to love it!
I never had the sensitive breasts, the cramping or lower back pain or anything like that. It's funny because when I tell people the above they are like, you were surprised to be pregnant? You weren't on birth control! And I wasn't, but DH and I had been trying to get PG for almost two years and nada. So, I had kind of given up I didn't think it was in the cards for me. I had actually planned on going to see a specialist for fertility issues after our Mexico trip.
