Just wondering...

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
Can I have 3?
First, our mortgage company tried to tell us just a week or two before we closed that, oops, they were wrong, we cannot opt out of escrow. I went way up the chain of command on that one until they let us opt out.
Second, and probably the most aggravating, was that our sellers were giant, fat liars. They kept saying they could move ANY time, we had to hurry, move, move, move, and then they kept pushing the closing date back. We had to close 12 days before they could move out - or we would lose our rate that we locked b/c THEY were in a huge hurry for the mortgage commitment.
Third, after we closed AND took possession, they were giant pains. We had to hold money in escrow and fight to get some of it b/c there was damage to the house. Then there's the daughter who at the walk-through wanted to take half the things that were supposed to stay and then at the closing they asked if they could take a built in that at the walk-through the night before they said we could keep. (We kept it, but will return it if we ever decide to get rid of it)... They were just really annoying all around. Nice people on the outside - PITAs to deal with though!

My mortgage broker not returning my calls or updating me when he should have. There was an issue on DH's credit report that I had resolved 100 times over and he kept losing the paperwork.

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
Bar none, it was finding the house.
We looked during low inventory for a year. I wish we would have waited because once the market started wobbling, we gobbled up a house at a great price in the top neighborhood in our town.
The reasons for lack of inventory for us was that we looked in 3 mile, one town radius.
After that, it was the constant aggravation of "what's next" "what could go wrong" "you lost our mortgage" "interest rates went up" "won't close without a termite remediation" "sellers being annoying"...etc. etc. It was the constant everyday back and forth that drove me batty.

I have to say, looking for a home. After we found the house we wanted, everything went pretty smooth after that.
I just felt like looking for a house consumed our life every weekend, nights during the week, etc...and I could not plan anything in our life until we found "the one"

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
I would say that at first everything was rush, rush, rush....the seller was supposedly ready to go and ready to close and then when we were ready (ahead of schedule) they kept pushing us back, so much so that we ended up closing on day before we would lose our rate lock (or we would have had to pay $30.00 per day to keep in open and we would not get reimbursed).

Honestly, I cannot even remember and I found it to be extremely stressful at the time. That's how fast it all really went and shows just how worth it it all was because at the time it was beyond aggravating and I was ready to do illegal things to people. But looking back, it's over so quick.

The seller's atty. He was young and inexperienced. To the point where our lawyer was telling him what he needed to do. Also, it took numerous calls to him before he called back.

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
We found "the" house 3 times. The 2nd house was really frustrating bc the owners did not get permits for a lot of stuff they did- deck, addition above the garage etc....They told us they would get permits for everything and it turned out that the town would not grant them. If we wanted the house we would have had to take the house as is and risk not getting the mortgage approved bc of permit issues or have the owners rip everything out. The work they did we liked though, so after A LOT of going back and forth - we backed out.
In the end, I am glad we did bc the house we wound up buying is a MILLION times better!!

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
It was having the bank tell us they were handling the title search & it said as much on their site/our personal page online. Then after we told our attorney the bank was handling it; we didn't find out that wasn't the case until another LIF'er had the same problem & at that point we confronted them & ordered it on our own, which held up the process by about 2 weeks (a long time when you're anxious to close).
Otherwise it was smooth sailing.
OHHHH & moving!!!!!!!!

Ours was just finding the house. Everything else after went so smoothly. We were very lucky.

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
The survey revealed we have property line issues with 4 of the 6 neighbors that border our property (we live next to the corner and our next door neighbors on one side are on a different street).
The lawyer didn't have the survey done until a week before our on or about date (the house was vacant) so it delayed our closing a bit.
Compared to some people's experience, it wasn't that bad looking back at it but, the house had been vacant for about 6 months by that point and DH was on vacation and wanted to start painting!

Re: What was your biggest aggravation in the home buying process?
Finding the house. We saw about 200 houses in a 16-18 month period. Put in 7 or 8 offers and dealt with bidding wars, incompetent realtors and insane sellers. Just when we decided to take a break...we found our house
