What was YOUR favorite book as a child?
Just curious, a girlfriend and I were discussing it. What classics do you recommend, that you loved, we add to our book collections for DC?
I LOVED LOVED LOVED, Sammy the Seal, all time favorite. About a Seal who gets to leave the zoo for the day and check out the world....still in publication. Runner up - The Monster at the End of this Book featuring Grover. Cracked me up everytime and my grandfather would do this silly voice when hed read it to me. This was a "golden book" you can also still get this one.

Very cool!!!
My mom also still has the Monster at the End of the Story book. We just read it to DS at her house a few weekends ago. That's a cute story too.
So much fun re-experiencing the books I loved through my DS
I don't want to rush him, but I'm so excited to share Roald Dahl with him. My second grade teacher read his books to us and I loved them.

I loved reading as a child and I am excited to share my love of it and my favorite stories with him. I actually took a children's literature class in college and it was one of my favorite classes. There are so many fantastic books out there.

I loved the berenstain bears book:
Bears In the Night
Its the first book I ever read, I remember reading it allowed to my class when I was little. I still have that book and will give it to my daughters as soon as they stop shredding books

Re: What was YOUR favorite book as a child?
Lengthy, by Syd Hoff. It's been out of print for a long time but my son will have a copy. It's a story about a very long dog. It's where my love of dachshunds began. I can probably recite most of the book verbatim!

Re: What was YOUR favorite book as a child?
I loved Syd Hoff... there was just something about the drawings that really appealled to me. I also loved Red Fish, Blue Fish... in fact I loved that one so much I STOLE it from my friend's house when I was tiny. My mother made me give it back.. but there was something about the visuals in that book that killed me. The same with Bread and Jam for Frances - it was something about the LOOK of it that appealled. It was allll about the looks back then.
I loved The Monster At The End of This Book becasue of the way my family would read it.
And when I got a little older I was all about Ramona, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing and Betsy & Tacy books. My older son just read and looooved Superfudge.

I recall from a very young age are Dr. Seuss books.
Other than that, I remember my mom reading Pippi Longstocking, which I loved. Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Sheila the Great, & Superfudge were big in my house.

When I was younger, Clifford, The Small Red Puppy was my favorite.
When I was older (around 3rd grade), Superfudge was my favorite, favorite book. I though Fudge was just so cute!

Re: What was YOUR favorite book as a child?
I just remember reading The Little Engine that Could over and over and over again.
I remember having a whole set of Golden Books also-- and I loved reading all the Disney princess books too.
My absolute favorite thing was Peter Pan though.
eta-- when I got a little older, I LOVED Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic.

Goodnight Moon.
I still have my old copy and was a little sad that when I would try to read it to DS he really had no interest. Fast forward to 1 month ago, I took it out again and he LOVED it
He now reads it to me every night before he goes to sleep It is by far the cutest thing ever. Dh has videoed it twice already
