What would be the closet LIRR station to Bethpage?
to get into the city? I'm talking a few blocks south off of Old Country Rd. by RT 135? Hicksville? Bethpage? Farmingdale?

Bethpage has a small station but I don't think there are many stops. When I commuted to NYC, the Bethpage people went to Hicksville.

I don't live in NY anymore, but last I checked, Bethpage was a pretty major stop on the Hicksville line. It's not a stop when the train is an express, but usually is on all the local trains.

Bethpage is closer but Hickville is the best.
Farmigdale is the wrong way.

Hicksville is the one which will have the most trains, but Syosset if not too far from the end of Rt. 135 - just make a right off Jericho Tpke and head up north on Jackson Avenue.

Bethpage does go directly to NYC and there are different times when there are only a couple of stops. You can drive to Hicksville but I don't see the point. My SIL did this for years and not once drove to Hicksville. Very easy and quick. In the morning there is a train like every 15 minutes, and the same in the evening. I know because we constantly get stuck at them trying to drive through town.

hicksville has the most # of trains running... you might have to wait a while if you use the bethpage stop.

Hicksville or Syosset are probably your best choices

Re: What would be the closet LIRR station to Bethpage?
I live in Bethpage and take either the Bethpage or Syosset train. I live right near where you described. It takes me about 6 minutes to get to the BP station, anbout 10 to Syosset. If I went to Hicksville, it would take me about 15.

Re: What would be the closet LIRR station to Bethpage?
Bethpage would be the closest and for the most part has a good amount of trains. I commute every weekday though Bethpage.
Hicksville is not that close. It takes about 10-12 minutes to get to the train station in Hicksville and if you want to park your car, forget it. There is major parking garage construction there now and it's a mess.
Bethpage has 3 huge lots. It's not a hub like Hicksville but I think it holds it's own. I only wish it was an elevated station.
