What would you do? Holiday tipping advice needed...
Hi everyone,
My husband and I live in a full-service building in the city. There are over 10 doormen that help us throughout the year.
There are some doormen who go WAY above and beyond the call. And some who really really suuuuck. But is it ok to tip some higher than others?
My husband and I are split on it. I consider it a tip - and I want to tip those who are very helpful more than those who help less. EVERYONE will get SOME form of a monetary tip - but I think that we should reward some more than others.
He thinks we should give everyone the same. He thinks they'll all talk to eachother and know who got more and who got less...
What do you think? Thanks in advance.

I think I agree with you, better service should = better tip.

Does your building suggest a minimum amount? My parents live in a full service building and theirs does. If so, then I would give everyone that minimum and a little extra to those who you feel went above and beyond

We also live in a doorman building in Manhattan. We gave the doorman and handyman who do more for us more $$ then the other workers who do not.
ETA: They do talk to each other but that shouldn't be a bad thing or a reason to tip the same amount to everyone.

This is how I feel! If you give everyone the same amount there is no incentive to do more.
