What would you do if a gift you received stopped working?
I got something for Hanukkah from my sister and it stopped working (electronic item).
it's not from a store, she bought in on overstock.com
my 1st reaction is - let it go.

I would let my sister know about it.
If I bought something for someone and it stopped working soon after I gave it as a gift, I would want to return it for a replacement.

if she got it at a store like Best Buy, I would def ask her if she has the receipt... or i would just take it back there. but I am very aware of overstock.com and their HORRIBLE return policy! I refuse to buy anything from them for that reason.

I didn't know their policy was so bad.
I would probably still let her know. It may sway her from purchasing from them again in the future.

Is it an expensive electronic thing? Maybe you can send it to the manufacturer for a replacement.

Then I'd let it go too. Not worth making your sister feel bad about it.

Re: What would you do if a gift you received stopped working?
this is overstock's return policy nice
You must return items in new or unused condition with all original materials included with the shipment. We will inspect all returned items and award a partial refund if opened or used. If the return is a result of our error , we will refund the full cost of the merchandise and shipping charges.

I would probably either contact the manufacturer or see if a store like Best Buy or Circuit City carries it and maybe you could make an in-person exchange w/o receipt.
The same thing happened to DH last year with a Plantronics bluetooth I got him online for Christmas.

I'd tell her. Not to bother with a replacement, just so she would't buy from them again.

I would go to a store that carries it and tell them it doesn't work. It will be backed by the manufacturers warranty.

i would contact the manufacturer directly. Most companies have a year warranty- even it they only have a 30 day warranty you're still covered. You will probably have to tell your sister though because you'll need the order information to prove that it was recently purchased.

Re: What would you do if a gift you received stopped working?
Me, personally, I would let it go and not tell the person who gave it to me. I might contact the manufacturer, though, to see if it could be repaired or covered under their warranty. I'd feel bad telling the person who gave it to me, though, b/c it's not her fault.

Since its your sister, I would just let her know.
You can also always call the manufacturer. The item is probably covered under a warantee.
